Today I’m so excited to bring everyone the latest single and music video from JULESY, the ultra-talented singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, New York, called “Heart On the Line.” This key track from JULESY’s new album, Flip The Bed, showcases this artist’s knack for writing deep, heartfelt hooks that have a lasting impact on the listener. In the same artistic vein as Soccer Mommy and Snail Mail, JULESY is your next obsession. If you’re enjoying the new single, please consider staying in touch with JULESY here.

How did growing up in a creatively driven household — with a film composer father and a voice teacher mother — shape your artistic voice and influence the sound on Flip the Bed?

My childhood was super creatively rich, and I was encouraged to have a soundtrack to my life; meaning using music as a conduit to feel and experience and explore. That’s how I write and process because of that, and I think flip the bed is just that to a tee. It’s all about processing, and it also is me processing.

Flip the Bed features both dreamy folk-pop textures and raw punk energy. Did you set out to create a genre-blurring album from the start, or did those elements emerge organically?

The main sonic theme I was leaning into while making this record was making instruments sound like their opposite; synths that sound like woodwinds, guitars strummed with pieces of paper, a lot of manipulation of the instruments. The genre blurring comes from this place of wanting to really push the boundaries what these instruments can sound like.

How did you choose “Heart On the Line” as the lead single, and how does it set the tone for the rest of the album?

”Heart On The Line” is just one of my favorite tracks really. The melody and chord changes feel really true to who I am as a songwriter, with really sweet and devastating movement in the notes. Plus, this song was a real passion project for me, Sahil and Cal. We put so much into every part of it. Also, it is very much the theme of flip the bed: putting yourself in a situation where you feel at the whim of your emotions and surroundings, and almost losing yourself to that.
