This past week, I was able to connect with Sacramento-based indie singer-songwriter JT Loux (pronounced “lucks”). I asked him about his new single called “Fool”, his upcoming touring plans and much more. If you’re enjoying the conversation, please consider streaming the new single here.

It’s nice to connect with you, JT! Can you walk me through your creative process for your cool new single called “Fool”?

I wanted to stretch my songwriting process, so I challenged myself to write a song that has the same chord progression in the verse and the chorus. That was the beginning of this song. I wrote it sitting in my car at three in the morning and it’s basically about being fooled by someone you’re in a relationship with.

I understand you’ll be on tour this November. What are you most looking forward to regarding these shows?

I’m mostly excited to get out there in front of those eager crowds. The Wolf fans are so loyal and cool, they all show up early and we get to play to full rooms every night. The Yelawolf camp really takes care of us and the venues are great and I love interacting with the fans. That’s what I’m looking forward to most.

Where do you find most of your inspiration for your music?

My music is influenced by a lot of older music, as well as a lot of new stuff that’s out there. I run across new music I appreciate every day. My creativity overall is inspired by lots of different art, like movies, as well as the experiences I have in my daily life!

Every artist has a story to tell with their music. What do you hope your fans will take away or feel when they listen to your unique blend of indie rock music?

I hope listeners feel the authenticity I pour into my music and that the experiences and observations I write about resonate with their own experiences and help them feel more connected to life.

What made you want to be a musician, and what continues to motivate you in your career?

When I heard and saw artists like Jeff Buckley, Oasis or Smashing Pumpkins as a kid, it seemed like the sickest way to express yourself and it seemed so fulfilling to write songs and perform them to an audience. I also loved the idea of being able to create art that outlives the artist. All of that turned out to be true, and the more I do it, the more I crave the communal experience of live shows and the experience of capturing my emotions and experiences in songs. I think my addiction to this life is only going to grow and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to pursue this as my mission in life.
