New 'Lord of the Rings' Movie From Stephen Colbert in Development

 

Seeing as the Ellisons got rid of Colbert when they took over at Paramount, I don’t see them continuing the development of this when they get control of WB.

The plot synopsis I saw of it also sounds terrible lol

 

There’s a reason they didn’t adapt Tom Bombadil the first time around

 

I think seeing Sam, Pippin, and Merry do a small little quest would be neat, but there is barely anything to take from Tolkien’s writing to make up something like that to warrant a film.

I’d watch it just to see Sean, Billy, and Dominic in those roles again, but it does seem unnecessary.

Also written by Stephen Colbert. I know he’s a massive Tolkien fan and probably words the books in his sleep, but penning a movie script? Maybe he’s just thinking of the story but not actually making the script.

 

I want three 3+ hour action-packed epic movies about what Fredegar Bolger did after the hobbits left Crickhollow where Orlando Bloom shows up as Legolas

 

I am cautiously optimistic about having Peter Jackson backing these movies but not being the main creative force behind them (maybe?), because it could be cool to have a contained story set in this world, where the movie just tells an interesting story about a character / characters for 90 to (please God no more than!)120 minutes

 

the KOTSK approach for LOTR would be a lot of fun. Don't need a grand epic. Just have some Took decedent, after having grown up hearing the tales of Great Uncle Pippen's grand adventures, feel the urge to go off on her own there-and-back-again find a hot elf companion and the two of them travel middle earth together

That's my son's favorite scene from the whole world (Minus maybe anything having to do with Smaug) so we got him that set but are holding off on giving it to him until his birthday this year
