i like this a lot. i also may have slightly overhyped myself for it. right now id say its definitely better than million dollars, as good or possibly better than 40 oz, but still a step down from everything else. however this is joyce manor, so that still means it’s a good record that i will play a ton this year. grey guitar in particular rules.
Never really got into Joyce Manor, but this album is great. does the vocal pattern in ‘all my friends are depressed’ remind anyone else of ‘degenerate’ by blink? I hear this every time in the 2nd half of chorus: ‘Smoked a bong, killed a cat, had my nuts attacked by rats, dad got nude, wore a thong, (all my friends are so…)
The guitar in Well, Don’t It Seem Like…at the start of the bridge is so satisfying. I personally feel no need to rank album by album but this is definitely up there with my favorites
I mentioned it early, but the verse melodies are super close to "Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn" by Hellogoodbye "Shimmy shimmy quarter turn/Feel like I can never learn/How can I search lost and found/All my friends are so depressed..." lol
Definitely my favorite since Never Hungover Again. I love every song so much. Grey Guitar rules so hard, but every time it starts I think its Speeding 72 by Momma.
the only song i’m not completely enamored by is Well Don’t It Seem. not big on those styles of tracks. would probably go crazy on a travel bus tho
after a bunch more listens and a discography runthrough: nha s/t cody of all things million dollars bar 40 oz I do like the new one a lot but a few bland refrains and vocal melodies keep it just a notch or two down
Not sure about the order but the new one, Cody and NHA are for sure my top three. Been listening to these guys pretty much nonstop.
Same. This is a comfortable third, but the other two are SO good, Relistened to Cody today, and couldn’t believe how good every song is. Front to back bangers.
went through the discog during lunch and cody and MDTKM are pretty easily the weakest imo 40oz was much better than i remembered, been a while since i listened
I’m the opposite; the harmonica saves it for me. I have an aversion to sing along adjacent songs. The only one that really works for me is All Circles by mewithoutYou
"Well Don't It Seem . . ." is so good. Probably my favorite track. I love this whole thing and really need to revisit the rest of their discography. I dug NHA and Cody but never spent much time with the other stuff.
