I agree whole heartedly that "Last You Heard of Me" is far and away the best thing they have committed to tape. It's just on a completely different level. In a weird way I actually felt a little disappointment from the album because of how great that song is. Think the album is still great, that song is just that much better than everything else.
Don't get me wrong, I love this band's last two albums, but the brevity of the songs make the two albums a lot less memorable and enjoyable for me. I wish they would throw on the additional repeating chorus and / or an interesting bridge to finish out a song. The hooks are so good and then the song just ends.
I like that they leave me wanting more. Like, the pitfall with short songs is that sometimes they can seem like half baked demos or something, but the songs have a pretty clear beginning and end to me -- they're fully formed AND they don't overstay their welcome, which I think is a pretty hard combination to achieve
There are interesting bridges just stuff isn't repeated makes you listen to the song again to get parts back
im havin a fuckin renaissance with NHA. between that and cody on repeat, i have been super obsessed with this band this month.
Falling in Love Again is still my favorite song from them. When the drums kick in at the beginning of the second verse I always have to jam the fuck out haha
I know this isn't entirely Joyce Manor related. But I've also been listening to Modern Baseball's Holy Ghost a lot recently, and it's also awesome. Actually, Last You Heard of Me kind of reminds me of the more stripped down, indie style on Holy Ghost.
So Cody is the first bit of music I've heard from JM and I honestly love it. I always enjoy listening to bands new albums without having the bias of comparing it to previous work. There seems to be a lot of love for their self titled is that the next move?
My buddy literally told me the exact same thing. If I can ever stop listening to this and new All Get Out I'll spin it
go backwards, but recognize that all their albums are great and that there's gonna be some stylistic shifts as you go
Only song I don't fuck with is do you really want to not get better but otherwise this record is dopee... God I fucking love Angel In The Snow so much. Also Over Before It Began. fawk.
I've said that I really enjoy this album, and I do, but I think I'd like it even more if the production was closer to how it was on NHA. Cody has this warm sound to it that doesn't completely jive with the aggressiveness / catchiness of the songs.
Listening to this all the time. It's made me revisit NHA and I'm starting to like it, it's just not as immediate to me.
I sing/whistle this album all the time and my wife gets super annoyed. also got drunk and added barry on fb yesterday but i'm pretty sure he denied me
