You know a band is special if Nate came back to record with them. He's only come out of retirement for Joyce Manor and Young Thug
I did a listen through all the NHA and on albums yesterday. Cody is really close to NHA for me, but comes to a halt at Over Before It Began and Reversing Machine, but it's highs are just as high as NHA IMO. Eighteen, Make Me Dumb, and Stairs are all timers. MDTKM is good, but peaks a little too early with Fighting Kangaroo and Big Lie being the best songs here, but Wildflowers might be my favorite closer of theirs. 40 oz. to Fresno feels like they were trying to recapture some of the NHA/Cody magic but feels a little unfocused. Souvenir (don't care that it's a cover, never knew the OG) Gotta Let It Go, and Secret Sisters are great. Feels like we should be due a new album soon, yeah?
Wow, I can't believe I never noticed Phoebe on Do You Really Want to Not Get Better? before today. Ok, time to spin Cody.
This assumingly had to be the first time I heard her voice before knowing who Phoebe Bridgers is after all
Somehow the only time I've seen JM was at the Wrecking Ball Festival in Atlanta. It was awesome though, it was when Fake ID was released as a single but Cody wasn't out yet, so it was basically all of NHA with Fake ID and the old staples thrown in. A JM 40-minute fest set is basically a headlining set for them, haha.
Joyce Manor and Algernon hell yeahhhh, see you in Boston Algernon opened the first JM show I went to back in 2012, this is sick
