great album. think I prefer the polyvinyl single version of nbtsa, but this version is still good. the cover of souvenir and secret sisters both deserve special mention too.
I listened to it three times in a row this morning and by the last listen I was singing along to everything. Like I said earlier, I’m not sure this will end up being my favorite JM record, but it is quite possibly one of their most consistent.
Gonna have to try spinning it a lot then for considerable "playtime", cause it seems it's only 16 minutes long heheh ;D but I see you've been doing fine - I also played it three times already - and I like it by the way, even the singles make me more excited in the context of the full set of songs. And I also share the excitement for Motion City's Tony on the drums over there!
genuinely laughed out loud when i opened the album page for this on spotify and saw that it was 16 minutes long lol this is great, though. of the songs that weren't already released reasons to believe, dance with me, and secret sisters are the early stand outs for me. also love the souvenir cover. this quote from their million dollars to kill me billboard interview feels pertinent:
This is fine… I know their other albums are all extremely short but they’ve always made the most of their run time, and I don’t really feel this one does. I really like the first single and “Dance With Me” at least. Definitely going to give it a few more listens.
I’m having a bbq tomorrow so I hope my friends enjoy this album because they’re going to hear it like 16 times
this is mostly just fine. not my least favorite of theirs (MDTKM) but nowhere near the run through NHA. the back half is fun and solid though. weird thing to say about a 17 minute album lol.
"Souvenir" what a bop. Love the synths EDIT: I see that it's a cover. Well it's the only song I thought really hit on first listen.
First listen this is definitely fine, I like it and I think it's probably better than MDTKM. Think my hopes were way too high lol Will listen a lot more this weekend though
i guess i'm the only one let down by souvenir. was hoping they'd speed it up or do something different. i've already listened to this 7 times. fun album. definitely a step up from MDTKM. weird that it's only like 2 minutes shorter than NHA. feels so much shorter than that.
the back half is definitely the better half. the run from dont try to souvenir sisters is immaculate.
