Think there's need for a thread to discuss journalism and shifts in its use, in topics such as the MTV News purge, Fox Sports shift to all video content, and similar things.

with the size the company is now this is indefensible. i understand it (though it still sucks for writers) in some cases but it's not like the company can't afford wages

 

Also, Richard Deitsch is one of my favorite people to read, since covering sports media and how it works is so meta that nobody thinks about it, but I love thinking about the inner workings of things and his scoops during the ESPN changes were great

it's interesting to see the athletic continue to get real top level people, wonder how many people will end up subscribing to it
