Spent the last few weeks working through Don Juan to Both Sides Now (the album). Don Juan and Mingus were both really good and feel like a nice closing chapter of her 70s run (even if they aren't quite up to the highs of the albums that came before). I didn't hate the 80s albums, but they're definitely much more forgettable than her other work. I was really pleasantly surprised by the 90s albums though. They had a real warmth to them and felt like they brought her career full circle. I'm going to save Travelogue and Shine for a while so I still have something left to hear. But wow, what a career.
Saw that last night but didn't realize she did an entire set. Was starting to watch some of them and had to stop cus I'm getting too emotional at work. At the end of Both Sides Now Joni is just sitting there laughing and smiling and it brought me immense joy. What a special thing.
I keep watching clips from this performance and crying, man. What a deeply beautiful and empathetic thing Brandi did for one of America's truly great artists.
Didn't know there was a Joni thread. I admit I need to listen to more of her stuff, but I love Clouds, LotC, and Blue.
