I can name 50 movies I’d rather watch on HBO Max other than ‘Joker‘ starting with Kurosawa’s ‘Seven Samurai’

 

lol the hatred ya'll have for this movie is borderline parody at this point. Of course it's not as good as Seven Samurai. It's a dumb popcorn movie that thinks it's deeper than it is, but it's genuinely not that awful. I've seen plenty of worse movies the past couple years

this was not the worst 2019 movie I saw, but it was the second worst

 

There is a good list of Criterion films on HBO Max as well as Studio Ghibli. I can’t remember all of them by name but the app is laid out to help you find them by collection. I know for a fact that ‘Hidden Fortress’ and Mizoguchi’s ‘47 Ronin‘ are both on the service if you’re looking for films related to Seven Samurai.

 

it's pretty, pretty, pretty bad. but it's more boring/says nothing than it is flat out awful. but yes, it wasn't my least favorite of the year

 

I don't hate it, but it is a terrible movie.

 

‘Joker’ isn’t a terrible movie. The acting is good and I enjoy the cinematography, but there isn’t anything I’ll get from rewatches that I didn’t get from the first watch.

 

It was my least favorite film in a long time

 

The screenplay is film school reject-bad and the director is a whiny pissbaby

As a miserable incel, Joker really speaks to me and all the frustrations I have and how the world owes me everything

 

I would sit through “Cats” before this because that was unhinged in the way this wanted to be.

 

No way I’d ever sit thru cats again, definitely taking this over that haha

Like... it’s objectively a bad film... but also it fucking rules

 

I don't even care anymore if Joker had anything interesting to say, or good politics, or was a good movie; beyond all of that, it just wasn't even fun for most of its duration.

If the whole thing had the energy of the third act + the scene where he drops the gun in front of the kids (& were shorter), it'd be good nonsense.

 

Is Jojo that bad? It’s on my watch list.

 

No it's not that's crazy. Thomasin McKenzie's performance alone make it a better film than this.

 

Jojo Rabbit was easily the worst film of last year. Joker at least reminded you of better Scorsese movies.

 

I loved Jojo, but it was more or less a comedy about antisemitism & genocide (things that somehow continue to be weirdly hard to avoid in 2020), so it’s pretty hard to fault someone for hating it.

Exactly these two comments. It wasn't fun or entertaining. I spent a lot of time waiting for something interesting to happen and it just didn't get there until the credits we're about to roll. What a waste of 75 minutes.
