I have never in my life cared a single bit about Gladiator. Certainly not when it came out, lol.

To this day I still have not seen Gladiator. I am old enough to have been able to see it in theaters though. Definitely Signs for me.

Many things to say:

- Did not like this movie
- Structure was very bad, most notably the second and third acts
- The message was heavy-handed to the point that it not only detracted from the entertainment, but started actively working against itself (itself being the message, sorry for the terrible sentence structure, I'm tired)
- JP was fine, but nothing outstanding

But the most important thing I have to express is this:

Show, don't tell. This movie is a prime example of ruining concepts, characters, and emotionally driven/tense scenes by explaining so much.

Ironically, it also tries too hard to be clever by being all "is this real? Or is that real? Maybe none of it is real?"

Doing a sequel with that structure/character previously determined is bonkers and a horrible idea.

I just can’t stop thinking about how a clip of him bombing a stand up set to a nearly empty room that obviously nobody would have been filming became both a late night sensation and a pivotal plot point

if nihilism is the actual intended message, the screenplay might somehow be worse than i originally thought. impressive.

Yeah there is no message in this movie, only topics. It brings up a number of issues and says literally nothing about any of them.

 

I thought it was that we live in a society that is twisted

but yeah it has no meaning and Todd pretending that anyone would give a shit about this movie outside the context of the Joker is funnier than any joke in The Hangover

 

This is...boring.
