If this is set in the 80s, and Reeves first Batman goes well, maybe, MAYBE we can see Batman and Joker for a possible sequel down the line?
I was never really fully against this movie conceptually once I started thinking of it as basically a Killing Joke-style "this could have been how the Joker happened" kind of thing. But I don't trust Todd Philips at all. So while this looks cool, I'm reserving any kind of excitement until reviews start coming in.
Based on that trailer it seems like it'll be pretty slow paced so I feel like most complaints will be that it's boring. I'm interested for sure.
This looks superb. The laugh is brilliant. This and Reeves Batman are not in the same universe. Phoenix only signed up to this on the condition it wouldn't become a series.
Oh man, whether or not this works for me will depend on how earnest it all is. Like, I know they're playing up the "tragedy," & I could see the more sincere scenes working surprisingly well. But, for the clown stuff, I hope they land in that same beautiful ballpark as Punisher: War Zone & Venom. Not that it'll get that over-the-top content-wise, but tonally, there should be a comparable vibe. Some of the moments in the trailer felt delightfully off kilter. And, I think this is my favorite Joker design on film. So while I'm not all that into Joker as a character, I'm currently here for this.
I didn’t really care for Leto’s Joker at all, so I feel like I’m going to really enjoy this. Also, I really recommend checking out Joaquin’s performance in You Were Never Really Here. Amazon.com: Watch You Were Never Really Here | Prime Video
I am 100% in. I love the "I used to think my life was a tragedy, but now I know it's a comedy" line. It definitely sums up the character and the trailer.
Such a great performance in You Were Never Really Here! definitely in for Joker. I remember being into the idea of Leto being the Joker based on him as an actor (before we saw any photos or footage), but then his version just missed the mark for me in almost every way.
I was going to ask the same thing. They go hand in hand. Just don't mess it up and make it laughable like they did everything in that series Gotham. You can have baby Bruce in it and make it work/non cheesy. Isn't Thomas Wayne in this too?
