As someone who really loved the first film, it pains me to me to say that I have zero interest in seeing this.
Why was Phillips so hooked on this ending? Nolan shot it down with the first film, but Phillips decided to bring it back. He really thought he had something clever lmao
The idea wasn’t bad imo (to have this joker just be the inspiration for the real one all along). If it had been properly executed and not been the ending to a dull half-musical, half-courtroom drama… I think a lot of us would be fanboying over it and probably asking for Phillips to direct a Batman film or something.
saw this yesterday, and i have no observations. not without redeeming qualities but it's a tiresome slog. wonder if todd's career will suffer as a result
I thought this was... not bad. Don't take me seriously because I'm like the one person on this site that really liked the first one, but I thought there was a lot to appreciate in this one. The cinematography was amazing, both Phoenix and Gaga deliver great performances and SOME of the musical numbers I genuinely enjoyed a lot, like the prison break and the courtroom one where he starts attacking people The idea to have Arthur be the main inspiration for the "real" Joker does kind of undercut the first one a little bit but I think it's an interesting idea that I don't entirely hate. Really, my main complaint about this movie is the amount of musical numbers; I don't hate the fact that it's a musical at all, like I said there were some of those sequences that I really enjoyed, but too many of them were them just standing there singing for like three minutes with nothing else going on onscreen. If they cut most of those and left the more elaborate/visual ones I think it would have improved the pacing of the second half a lot Overall, I'd give this a solid C. Not great and nowhere near as good as the first one but I didn't hate it
Saw this last night. Hated the ending, hated Gaga’s portrayal as Harley Quinn, or should I say “Lee”. Her reason to leave him at the end is stupid and she completely ignored him when he brought up the pregnancy to her.
