I think just the dates that her band destry (who y’all should check out as they’ve started playing again!) opened up, she’s been at a lot of the New York or Boston shows in the past year though.
Seems unlikely. She apparently lives in Boston now, as I gleaned from mine and my girlfriend's awful attempt to say hi to her. Haha
Damn... I'm really digging this! Do you remember? is a terrific opener and the album flows incredibly well.
I love that the set is almost half Straylight. That's about the amount I'd like. For anyone wondering: Existentialism on Prom Night It's for the Best Mistakes We Knew We Were Making Hands in the Sky (Big Shot) The Tension and the Terror Your Name Here (Sunrise Highway)
I honestly only like one of John's songs on that album (don't kill me). But it's a fun sing a long, "Take It To Manhattan," which would be nice to see on there.
That was truly an amazing show, so much heavier than I expected and I loved it for it. The show really hit my nostalgia strings for Straylight Run, I never was able to see them and I LOVE those two albums. He played all the SR songs flawlessly. But it also hit my nostalgia strings for this kind of music. The really gritty but very melodic style that the Long Island scene is known for. A lot of the newer bands who people compare to that era, I just don't see it. I miss what this album, and what that show was last night. Anyway, great shit.
Surprised he's not playing Buttoned Down. I really like Do You Remember, but the rest of the album hasn't stuck much with me. I've never been too high on his solo stuff though (although I adore Straylight Run and am grateful I got to see them live twice).
and "buttoned down" and "the first of the century" and "the words we say" and imo the best straylight song "we'll never leave again" and and and
This stuck with me way more than I expected tbh. I’ve been playing this almost daily. Are his other solo records like this?
Ehhh. The one previous to this has a lot more folky feels. It's hard to pin his solo stuff down really, but I would say it's most certainly worth a listen.
I would say the songs off his other two albums you should check out if you liked this one is it takes a long time, not to let go, street robbery blues, drinking your way to confidence, its the end of the world
This is the first album that seems like John's taken the idea of a solo career seriously. Not to say the others weren't good, just that they kinda seemed less thought-out, I guess.
On the other two albums, half the songs were amazing and half were filler. At least that's how I felt.
