I was listening to them on my run earlier and "Love on the Weekend" came on and seemed notably louder than "Roll It on Home."
So much better than wave 1. I love this release schedule, his music always puts me in a good mood and it's a nice surprise to have at the end of every month.
"The same brain that brings me ecstacy, is the same pain that gets the best of me" that line is so simple yet has already become one of my favourite lyrics of his. Such a good selection of songs, not too keen on Roll It On Home though.
One of the reasons I think this is a good way for him to release music is because it's letting him try all of these different styles that definitely wouldn't work together in one album. Plus it doesn't bother me when there's a song I'm not that in to because I know there's so many more coming, ha.
Yeah I agree, I mean Emoji On A Wave has the same country feel but to a lesser extent than Roll It On Home does but EOAW is just so freaking good. If at least two songs are memorable out of the four in a month that means we get at least 24 memorable JM tracks which I won't complain about haha.
Inspired by Drake and Rihanna, Mayer is avoid a traditional release plan. Instead, he's putting music out in "waves," a few songs a month (the first four came out in January) until a physical LP this spring. "It forces me to finish the songs," he says. Even once the LP comes out, Mayer plans to continue releasing small batches of songs. "This record is alive and being made all year," he says. The Search for Everything is over when I tweet it's over." From this month's Rolling Stone. So I guess one of the waves is going to be a proper full-length? Seems like the idea behind this project is constantly evolving.
The guy is a damn machine, hope he doesn't overwork himself but glad to see he's really pushing himself. Dude has such amazing talent and it's wonderful watching him evolve like this.
I'm actually super okay with it being a full length. These are all great songs, and it's fun getting a whole lot of different things, but he's always done nice work putting together a full length. They feel complete in a way that these don't.
I feel like the album will probably be like a collection of the songs released or something like that. If he puts out a whole full length album and these are just the songs that didn't make it on I'll be very surprised and happy, ha.
Helpless is such a jam. I'd love a whole feel good classic rock/funk album from him. A nice positivity in these songs
much more into the grooves than the melodies on most of these songs e: uhh except "Helpless" is catchy af and the solo breaks have so much jerry in them
I'm enjoying the ride so far, ha. No songs have hit me on the same level as his best yet but it seems like there's still a lot to come so I'm hoping a few of them blow me away.
Agree with those who say this is more enjoyable than Wave 1. Also, love the release strategy. I feel like established artists can ditch the album format if they really want to.
Definitely like this group more than part 1, it's nice getting a small batch of Mayer tracks a month.
He's definitely one of the artists I respect the most. Still Feel Like Your Man and Helpless just show how long he can stay on his prime. I feel like we'll still be praising John a lot for years to come.
