I like "New Light" but it's mid-tier John Mayer at best for me.

 

New Light is the first new song he's put out since I've been a fan of his, and its probably my favorite.

 

I wonder what type of response New Light would've got had he released it a little after something like Born and Raised instead of roughly a year after his worst album yet

B&R Mayer is my favorite Mayer so this is really easy to love. I’ve listened to it 5+ times today.

 

That might be the best song he's written since Continuum, and that's saying something for me.

I agree, it’s a great song, but I like New Light and several songs off of Search For Everything more. At least after my first two listens.

 

It's a classic folk song which means I'm always gonna like it more than his pop based stuff. This song would go great with "In The Blood" tho

 

In the Blood is probably the best song from his last couple albums.

 

Walt Grace - Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey - A Face To Call Home is my favorite run of songs in his discog.

I'm gonna jam through some Mayer albums this morning.

 

Yeah, it would be middle of the road at best on any of his albums imo. New Light was much more interesting to me. I hope we get a new album from him soonish though.

 

This is so much better than “New Light.” The lyrics are just way more interesting.

Edit: And it also doesn't have a line about pushing 40 in the friend zone.

I also learned last night watching his IG tv "show", that he's been sober for 2 years. Like, I can't love this man enough.

 

Without question. I'm way more interested in him writing super personal stuff like "In the Blood" or this new song than I am in him trying to chase another hit like on "New Light."
