I wouldn't have minded much if the album was great but I think it was easily his worst since Room for Squares. Just a hodgepodge of songs that mostly sounded like worse versions of things he's already done.
Song’s out there... didn’t get to listen that closely but it’s not THAT different. Which I think is a good thing, I’m glad it’s not like a Top 40 pop song or whatever.
Search For Everything is half great and half just ok/kind of boring. Moving On and Getting Over is one of my favorite John Mayer songs. Still Feel Like Your Man, Helpless, In the Blood, You're Gonna Live Forever In Me, and Changing are all really good. The rest is fine but forgettable.
I won’t stand for this Room for Squares diss. I think Search for Everything is on pretty even footing with Paradise Valley for me. The difference is that Paradise was basically a bonus album that I never expected to get, and Search is a fraction of what was initially promised. I think Search has some really great songs, but it’s hampered by bad sequencing and by the expectations I had for the project as a whole.
RFS is great, Heavier Things is underrated, last two albums have been forgettable, though TSFE does have more jams
What am I missing with Born & Raised? Never clicked for me. Heavier Things is right next to Continuum on my list
I like it but it’s nothing really special tbh. I’m surprised No ID had a part in it, I never would guess that from listening to it.
I don't think ive ever heard someone harmonize with their own record during a radio interview before haha
Him and Zane were genuinely enjoying that interview haha Honestly the interview made me breathe a sigh of relief, John seems to be in a really good headspace as far as knowing what would work for him and what wouldn’t... he said him and No ID tried more drastically different ideas but if they didn’t feel genuine to who he was as he kept going, he wouldn’t release it.
I like this. Very groovy and breezy. It's going to sound great on a sunny afternoon laying in my hammock lol If he thought this was going to be his hit single, he's way off the mark, but I'll play this a good amount this summer.
Yeah, I like it, and may like it more later, but its no smash single Shit I just got to the riffy bridge and I like it more already
