I’d like “I Guess I Just Feel Like” to be on this album because it’s a great song and I’d like it on one of his full lengths, but (1) I don’t want “Carry Me Away” to be on there too and (2) I want as many new songs as possible. Ho hum.
Continuum > Born & Raised > Battle Studies > Heavier Things > Search For Everything > Room for Squares > Paradise Valley Can't believe people are ranking SFE dead last. "Still Feel Like Your Man," "Helpless" and "Moving On and Getting Over" are enough to surpass PV at the very least.
I think The Search for Everything gets dinged because the rollout was awful and the sequencing is incoherent. I've got a resequenced version that I adore, though. Definitely more top-tier songs on that record than PV. "Helpless" is an all-time jam, and "In the Blood" and "Rosie" are among my favorite Mayer songs too.
I mean I'll take "Badge and Gun" and "On the Way Home" over any of those for sure. Search for Everything isn't that far off Paradise Valley in terms of great songs but I find it even less consistent. My bottom three are all pretty close together though. Room for Squares probably has the highest highs but lowest lows for me out of those albums.
Man. I just listened to Heavier Things for the first time in a while. It’s even better than I remembered. Why is this record never talked about outside of Daughters?
Yeah I was never the biggest fan of Daughters. Ironic that it's the biggest song from that album (and his entire catalog, really).
I can see why its such a big hit with the demographic it is but yeah, its never done much for me personally.
I didn't like the song from the start. The message of it always struck as kind of strange, but it's really weird now, knowing how not great of a guy John Mayer was to women.
Heavier Things was the first album I ever walked into a store and bought with my own money. So I've got a lot of fondness for that one! "Daughters" is fine, and not surprising that it was such a big hit, but I was always surprised "Bigger Than My Body" didn't do more. That song is such an earworm. "Daughters" definitely has aged strangely, though.
Daughters is one of his worse tracks, its like he knew Your Body is a Wonderland was cheesy and he reached for the Velveeta That aside, I think Heavier Things is his second best album. Something's Missing, Split Screen Sadness, Home Life, Wheel - great songs

haven't really loved his stuff in the past but I've become much more open to enjoying him since Dead and Co. maybe I'll check this one out

Try! for me. That release got me into JM. Where The Light Is is one of my all time favorite live concerts though. Especially the trio section.
It seems weird to me to rank his albums without including the live stuff. But I also listen to the live albums more frequently than the studio albums so that might just be me.
