I'm so glad he kept the sameeting arrangement for the song winter wheat. It's such a beautiful song. Love the blurbs on the stream. Dreading these Virtute songs like you wouldn't believe.

Such a perfect album on such a shitty dreary day in Ontario.

Probably not a good idea to listen to while driving. That last song wrecked me. This album is insane. I can't remember the last time I've been stricken like this.
This actually rarely sounds like the Weakerthans like some articles hinted at which is honestly a good thing. I love the vibe this album gives off. I might have to buy that bundle with the Vivat Virtute shirt!

  8. I unsurprisingly love this, maybe even more than Provincial already.

And my cat jumped up on my lap just as "Virtute At Rest" started.

I'm not much into records but this will probably sound gorgeous on it. The production is so calming and crisp on this.

Also, Looky Lou's is utterly ridiculous. I can't wait to see the looks on peoples faces when I put that on in the car.

Damn, I recognize a bunch of these songs from his set opening for Bahamas in 2015. After only one listen of them live, I remember some of the lines almost a year later, especially during Winter Wheat.

I'd say that's a testament to his (already one-of-a-kind) lyricism, an aspect we're all swooning over at the moment.

To be honest I heard the first Virtute song and didn't really realize it was about Virtute :(
EDIT: ohhhh it's from the perspective of the old owner. Makes sense now.

Vampire Alberta Blues is a jam.

It's really too bad that 95% of this board isn't going to know about this.

Edit: Yup. Last song made me cry.

know I am with you. know I forgive you.

  16. I liked "Alpha Adept" as a single, but it's truly spectacular coming right after "Quiz Night At Looky Lou's." The ending is downright triumphant.

Love the new avatar! I agree this will end up criminally underrated. I'm not sure how that last song packs such a punch for such a short song.

Well it's the last chapter of a story that fans have come to love. I doubt the song has anywhere near as much of an impact to someone hearing this album as their first JKS experience.

Stream is all choppy for me so I'll wait for it to hit Spotify tonight. I'll set aside some time alone so I can be emotionally devastated in peace.

  21. As a culmination of the years spent listening the other Virtute songs and thinking about that cat, I think I agree, but I'm not sure it stands alone as well as "One Great City!" or "When I Write My Master's Thesis."

I think the lyrics are his most effective; aside (lol) from the "paw" and "claw" lines I think it stands pretty well on its own. I'll go into my detail in my review, but I really love the song. It also made me far less sad than I expected it to, haha. It's not my favorite song of his, but I love the lyrics a lot
