Song isn’t outright bad like Cherry Pop, but it does nothing for me. I don’t come to this project for gospel type stuff. I hope this album doesn’t end up sucking.
This song is better, but still not great and a very weird choice to release as a single. I'd say these two songs don't come close to mid-tier JMSN songs, let alone his best work.
I really like the style/vibes/music of this one, but it doesn't really go anywhere all that exciting as a song
"Soft Spot" is pretty cool, probably the best of the recent ones, but I'm not 100% sold on the pitched vocals
Agreed about the pitched vocals. He’s used them a bit too often imo, sometimes it works really well and other times like this song it weakens the track somewhat. Still like the song overall.
First impressions: This is actually very good. It’s weird, dark and experimental but it works. The songs released in advance flow a hell of a lot better in the context of the full album. Going to need a few more listens to fully digest but my initial feelings towards this project are mostly positive. Fav tracks: 2 High, Happens Everytime, Not 4 U, Outsider
Excited! He hasn’t missed yet, even though the singles have definitely been more experimental I’m excited to hear how it all flows together.
Soft Spot has to be one of my favourite albums of his at this point. I really feel like he breathed new life into his sound with this record. I will never doubt him again
Listening to it now for the first time. I must’ve skipped over it when it dropped. Feel Like a Woman is a great track. Still determining how I feel about it overall. He definitely switched it up on this one.
Overall not huge on this album. Feels like a transition album, a bit disjointed. Some of the experimentation works for me, some of it doesn’t. Maybe the next one will feel more complete.
Hm… I’d say mainly the singles are what drag down the beginning of the album. The title track is still growing on me. Everything else is better, while a little all over the place in terms of vibe. I really liked Feel Like a Woman, Not 4 U, and Groovy.
That's interesting. Feel Like a Woman and Not 4 U are brilliant but Groovy is the only song that doesn't work for me tbh. I'm really not a fan of the vocal style on that one.
Groovy is noir-ish fun. It’s probably the weirdest thing on here. I might like it just for the sake of him trying something so different
