actually i could get why you'd think that. i like a lot more pop-oriented stuff probably more than my posting on here has let on, haha, and i've been listening to various jimmy songs since i was a kid
Idk, seems like they're up your alley more. I guess I lump Brand New in with emo a lot when it comes to fandom, even though BN really isn't an emo band
fair enough. there was probably a time when i liked bn more, but i'd take most jimmy albums over my favorite bn album at this point
This BN talk stings a little bit but I'll let it slide because you folks seem nice I don't think I've ever enjoyed Bleed American as much as I currently am. That is a good sign.
Not counting Static, Bleed is my least favorite JEW album. That said, I still like it a lot. I don't like Authority Song at all though.
I've always thought it was good but never really loved it or anything. I think thats starting to change though. If You Don't, Don't and Cautioners are definitely among the best songs I've heard from them
Cautioners is definitely a top ten JEW song. Unpopular opinion though: I like Authority Song much more than If You Don't, Don't. IYDD and Sweetness are my least favorites on the record by a considerable margin and it'd be more in line with my favorite JEW albums if those two were just cut.
I think I'm definitely in the minority here, but Get it Faster is my favorite song on Bleed American. haha
The pre-chorus in Authority Song is pure sugarcoated earcandy. I don't really know what my least favorite is. Maybe The Middle?
Thanks to being banished from non-religious music until I was 17, The Middle was a new song to me when I got Bleed American (I have the self-titled copy though. haha) so it doesn't have any sort of wear on me or anything like I'm sure it does on others from it's popularity. Probably my second or third favorite on the album.
I heard that song everywhere when I was younger so thats really the only reason I call it a least favorite. I still think it's a fun, catchy song but it just doesn't hold up to the other songs on the record for me. Right now, my favorite is definitely either A Praise Chorus or My Sundown
A Praise Chorus is my number 3. For some reason I never really got My Sundown, maybe I should play through Bleed again soon.
I love the vocal melody/hook in My Sundown and think it works so well as a closer. It evokes the image of a warm setting sun and gives me a nearly nostalgic type of pleasureful feeling.
Well it's late where I am and BA just ended, so I'm off to bed. It's been fun chatting. I can feel myself falling for this band in a new, deep way I haven't in the past, and I'm really excited about that. So thanks to y'all in this thread for inspiring me to dig into the band some more!
Okay, played through Bleed American. Liked it more than I remember, though I still don't like Authority song, and I think If You Don't, Don't is not too much better.
If You Don't Don't is a top 10 JEW song probably. I adore that song. Authority Song is a really fun, catchy little number. The only thing I dislike about it is its placement in the track list. It should've come after IYDD or maybe even sooner. But this is probably the only band I enjoy where every song from Static Prevails to Damage has at least some redeeming qualities and I can totally understand why a certain song would be a favorite track. Just shows how great this band is. Also this thread has been great you all rule ❤️
To return to a topic from earlier, Chase This Light is Jim's best album vocally. That album has the most technically difficult set of songs in the discography, vocally, and he just slays all of them.
