Invented is my least favorite of the Clarity - Damage albums, but damn, does that record influence me more than the majority of records I've listened to. You know a band is good when you'd still take one of your least favorite records from an artist over other bands' best.
all i know is Clarity is GOAT and JEW discography is GOAT. lots of goats for JEW. what a strange post.
if we're talking moods, i see Invented as the most balanced record. there's a bunch of happy and there's a bunch of sad but it's never "Feeling Lucky"-happy or "Dizzy"-sad - which makes CTL seem as the one with the biggest... 'mood swings'. Damage is the saddest, Clarity is the calmest, Bleed is the angriest, Futures is the more levelheaded one i guess?
I'm not saying it's a bad album. But their other songs are just superior. Given a choice I would pick almost any other Jew album to jam.
@CoffeeEyes17 Hi I just listened to Clarity. I really enjoyed it. I can tell it's the sort of album I'll need to put some time into to truly appreciate, but it gave me a strong first impression. It definitely has a different sound than I'm used to from BA/Futures/CTL but I always prefer JEW when they're a little slower and more brooding. So yeah basically I'm glad to finally have listened to this and am excited to continue listening. But first, Invented.
I think Jim nailed the adult-breakup vibe on that song - adults are just much more decisive about ending a relationship. Things can be great, and then just end. You were good, you were good, you were gone.
I always say that Brand New is my favorite band. But I like way more of JEW's discography than Brand New's... So is it even accurate to say Brand New is my favorite or is definitely it JEW?
Do you like the BN albums that you like more than the JEW albums? To me it's more of a gut thing than any objective way to measure it
It's hard to say. It's probably equal honestly. I used to really really connect with Jesse's lyrics. But the older I get I find myself really connecting more with Jim's. I'd probably have to put them as tied for my number one. I probably listen to JEW more often than Brand New these days
Both bands have one album I love, haha. I can see myself getting into the rest of JEW's stuff a lot more than Brand New's though.
WARNING Myself, @Iago @Zac Djamoos @Craig Manning and pretty much anyone else who wants to join in are going to do a big discussion on Clarity and why we all love it. Maybe we'll do a live listen to the album and give our thoughts or just talk in general. Anyways it's meant to be fun and anyone's welcome to join in and discuss why this album (and the band really) are among the best. We'll be starting in a couple hours, just gotta wait for Iago to get off work
Where will this be taking place? Heads up I can never not praise For Me This is Heaven and I will probably listen to that song forever
I'm excited to read it. I might listen along and see if I can find a new appreciation for it now I like the band, haha. Hopefully I can at least see why it's so beloved. I may chime in some thoughts here and there too. Also I'm listening to On Letting Go for the first time in a while in full and I've always been a fan but everything about it is hitting me way harder than it ever has before. I may have to spend some more time with those other Circa albums.
