I kind of think that people who don't care about music or know anything about it should be outlawed from talking about music on their podcasts.
I didn't know what that podcast was until today, and in fairness, that dude's take is exactly what I'd expect to come from some out-of-touch Christian who probably listens exclusively to shitty worship music.
What’s funny is that Jimmy Eat World’s music is probably more “family friendly” than FOB on the arbitrary Focus on the Family scale. Truly the least cool people acting like something is awful because they haven’t heard it before. And the complete lack of curiosity may not even be in the top 5 worst things about evangelicals.
As somebody who left a sect of Christianity that loved FotF, Plugged In is sometimes hilarious when they do music/movie reviews. Like panning Shang-Chi for Taoist influence. And I know it was said as a joke, but I unironically want to hear FOB play Radioactive now.
I wore my JEW beanie to work once and one of my coworkers was curious about it and said "Oh yeah!! Haven't heard of them in forever. They were a good one hit wonder!" I just internally combusted.
“May I direct your attention to their gold-selling single ‘Pain’?” Also, how the FUCK is The Middle not certified?!
Also why do you even need to 'know' the songs? JEW are so good live I can't imagine not enjoying their set even not knowing a single song.
Jimmy Eat World is like oreos: I like everything they have to offer, but some people only like The Middle
Honestly it’s more funny to me that a guy from FOTF went to a Fall Out Boy show with his kids or whatever. Reminds me of a story when Fall Out Boy did their first arena tour in 06 which hit the Bible Belt during the height of the Bush Christian Right era and some woman complained to her local news channel that it was a homosexual rally. Oh WOW this just absolutely threw me back twenty years. I remember this and complaining about it at a friend’s house. Lol god the things that just stay tucked away in your brain somewhere.
For whatever reason, when I was a kid I found the Plugged In reviews of secular music amusing. Looks like Bleed American got a pretty good review from them: Jimmy Eat World
Lmfao my parents used this site for a bit. Maybe not a coincidence that Bleed American was the first CD I bought with my own money when I was like 11 hahahaha
Weekend break in a quaint university town in Scotland, kids asleep by 730 so went a wander and stuck on Delivery from Surviving and ended up in this very Jimmy street as it played. Pretending- I'm- in- the- music- video vibes.
What town is this, If you don’t mind me asking? Looks a lot like lights on Rose St in Edinburgh but I imagine it’s somewhere smaller. Also great song, great band.
