Still remember laying on my living room floor hearing the leaked version of CTL for the first time. Expectations after Futures being sky high, and hearing "Carry You," and how perfectly the lyrics matched my life and a relationship I was in at the time and going "fuck, they did it again."
Must defend Chase This Light, it's my favorite of theirs, sometimes Bleed American depending on the day. Also seeing them at first ave in Mpls when they toured the album, possibly the best concert experience I've ever had.
Surviving really goes up a notch if you throw "Half Heart" in between "One Mil" and "All the Way (Stay)" and add "Failure" before "Recommit." And I already loved that album, those songs just add some nice breathing room to the thing.
"Heart Is Hard to Find" rules and is one of their best-sounding songs ever. Trombino freaked it on that album.
Carry You is anywhere between the first and fourth best song on CTL and not only is the bridge, as mentioned previously, an absolute highlight, but the second verse also has legs to stand on as well. “One thing to make your mind and another to say it’s name” is such an incredible lyric. That album is so good at delivering heart wrenching lyrics behind bright and polished sounds and Carry You is at the forefront of that imagery imo
