a while ago there was a resolution in Holliston, MA that had the people in the town divided, and one side made these signs --> which cracked me up every time I saw them
still maintain half heart was good enough to be the centrepiece of that whole album, they did it so dirty
also, whenever I listen to this album on Amazon Music, "All The Way (Stay)" & "Love Never" are significantly louder than the other 8 songs - I don't mean just a little bit either, it's crazy how much louder they are
Also, finished the Bandsplain episode. Really fun stuff, and definitely got me diving down a Clarity rabbit hole. I think I'd have been totally satisfied if they'd done another 15 minutes on Futures and then wrapped with a few minutes on Chase This Light. I disagree that the arc of the band was basically done after Bleed American. I think there was a very real possibility that Jimmy Eat World could've become a one-hit wonder after "The Middle." Songs like "Pain," "Work," and "Big Casino" getting radio play solidified them as a career band and are an important reason why they're still around, IMO.
Idk why we’re even talking about this, phaynes already explained to us that no one outside of this website calls it Invented
I’ve rarely been more offended by a review than when this one said Damage was full of “synth-y experiments.” Jimmy Eat World doubles down on the familiar with Integrity Blues, and it works
I use “Love Never” lyrics as a marriage and family therapist with my clients all the time. Truly profound stuff in that track “[Love’s] gonna feel so hard until you want the work more than the reward” Goes apeshit
Absolutely, Half Heart in place of (just spitballing here) Recommit would have elevated this album further. It still holds up super well. Forever bitter we were cheated out of the title track sticking around, especially as set opener. Crazy energy and a song that truly soars like their best work does.
Criminal Energy should have been album opener and I dont like the title track all that much. *ducks and leaves thread*
Oh gosh how embarrassing. You see it was a reference to the people on the podcast doing a deep dive on Jimmy Eat World calling Invented “Inverted” and you explaining to us ding dongs that no one outside of this website knows or cares about anything this band did after Futures.
What!? "Recommit" is the best song on Surviving and a top-tier JEW track. My 2 least favorite Surviving tracks are easily "One Mil" - sounds like a Weezer b-side - and "Criminal Energy" - I get the intention but the execution wasn't there.
