Clarity Futures Chase This Light Bleed American Static Prevails Integrity Blues Invented Surviving Damage Jimmy Eat World
if i were to go scores the top two would be As, CTL and BA Bs, SP, IB and Invented Cs and i couldn't care enough to grade the other three
Wow where have you guys been when I’m putting my neck out around here to say I don’t particularly enjoy Integrity Blues that much?
I re-listened to Surviving recently and I like it but it’s pretty handily my least favorite since Static Prevails
Clarity - Futures run is unbelievable. I will say tho that I’m not too fond of the some of the decisions made in the latter half of Bleed. Great songs but I feel like Get It Faster breaks the pace and Cautioners should’ve been sequenced to go right into My Sundown. No harm no foul on either gripe tho; Get It Faster and Authority Song are standalone tracks on their own that I ultimately don’t mind, but I don’t think Bleed can be a 10/10 for me personally because of that break in flow when Clarity and Futures rule their spots because of their sequencing That being said, Big Casino is one of THE Jimmy songs in my mind and I probably like that song more than Bleed as a whole, save for maybe If You Don’t, so CTL’s in that comfortable 4th spot and joins the other three on the band’s Mt Rushmore. There’s a couple weak spots in it that puts it down for me (by the standards of the band’s discography), but it’s ultimately an exceptional album and I could totally understand if it was someone’s favorite
I can't argue that it's their best simply because they have so many amazing albums, but it is absolutely a damn good album that is better than it gets credit for
Going in for a Chase This Light to Integrity run this morning to try to rank them independently of any comparison to Futures.
Just relistened to CTL and while I really do like it a ton, I think the middle section is at odds with the bookends. Big Casino - Carry You, and CTL - Dizzy, have these absolutely heart wrenching lyrics backed behind a glamorous sound that feel almost retroactively reminiscent of Paramore’s After Laughter. The middle section is still very bright and polished, but shrugs off the somber lyrical undertones for something more celebratory Not to say an album has to be sad to be good, obviously, but I think the record would feel more concise and thematic as a 7 song EP with 4 incredible tracks that exist near/alongside it
