they just announced their spring cleaning sale... album imminent

 

I would at least expect a single by the time they’re on the road with The Offspring. Easy way to play a new song in front of thousands.

 

Maybe even a new single before coachella

 

This is one of my go-to's whenever anyone mentions them being a one hit wonder, it's as good as any single they've ever released. Something about that music video really draws me even more in too

 

One hit wonders are determined by chart records though. The Middle is their only legitimate hit. Obviously, all of us on a site like this don’t put any stock into how a song or band charts.

And if you’ll look at the overall US chart, you’ll see only The Middle broke the top 10.

 

Clearly we're not of this mindset, but an overwhelming majority of people who are aware of this band heard The Middle on the radio & MTV in 2001 & never heard of them ever again

 

Having even one genuine hit is more than most artists will ever achieve. It’s only viewed as bad if you want it to be.

 

Damn I've never really focused on their chart positions at all. Having 7 straight albums chart in the top 100 on Billboard, & 5 straight in the top 20 are really remarkable achievements

Imagine living in this delusion.

 

To the general public, Jimmy Eat World is more likely to be viewed as a one-hit wonder than a legacy act. Then, if people actually go see them, audiences would probably realize they know more songs than just "The Middle," whether that's "Sweetness" from the same time or something like "Work" or "Carry You" from One Tree Hill or whatever.

 

We don’t have to judge them by crowd perception. We can see the data that shows it.

 

Forgive my earlier sass, I am not actually tilted by this convo. We can just disagree and that's fine.

The tragedy of radio is that getting #1 on alternative (or active, for that matter) means far, far less to the public consciousness than a position on pop radio.

That's why so many bands at least attempt to cross over.

 

Sorry to interrupt whatever is going on here, but can someone catch me up on what the status of new music from them is? My brain hurts too much to dig through this thread to find news

 

No official updates. They put merch on sale, so people assume it means they are doing so to help make room for incoming new merch in support of a new album.

Well I was hoping to hear they posted studio pics last Summer or Fall or something like that, so that's a bummer. Just realized earlier it's been 6 years and I haven't really kept up with them besides seeing tour news. Need a new album in my life. I know we all do.

 

They were tracking as of a few weeks ago!
