The first three songs on Damage rule. Then the only one from there that really moves the needle for me at all is I Will Steal You Back
there's some really really lazy songwriting on that album eg a chorus consisting of "please say no" four times in a row. Book of Love is a great song though
Gave Damage a spin on vinyl this evening, and I still really love that album. It's short on Jimmy Eat World all-timers, but it's so solid. I really think if it sounded as bright and pristine as Chase This Light it would have gotten a different kind of reception.
I think my current ranking would look something like this, love them all though: Invented Futures Damage Chase This Light Clarity Integrity Blues Bleed American Surviving
Invented is just so quintessential Jimmy. The sound and the feeling from the album. Surviving and Damage both really lack that for me.
Damage rules. Appreciation, Damage, I Will Steal You Back, No Never, and You Were Good are all top tier Jimmy songs to me.
Woulda been cool to get a live rendition session of Damage. Would love to see those songs not sound like unfinished demos.
I don't think I've ever seen this much love for Damage! I love that record, it was the one that got me into the band
I’ve come around on Damage but I still think that album cover is horrible. It was actually one of the few times the artwork was part of what kept me from fully diving into an album
I appreciate your optimism, but there’s not a chance GA will be less than $150. Unless you were referring to the lawn lol
I'm remember it being hot as hell outside when this album came out. I would run around the lake where I lived and there would be white flower trees that lined the lake. All while listening to Damage. Beautiful memory
Unpopular take I'm sure, but the production on Damage is one of the biggest draws to it for me. Pretty much every JEW album is produced very clean, so I like having the change of pace with one that's a little more rough around the edges. I really love the songs on Damage, but I don't know that remixing it to sound more like the rest of their discography would change anyone's mind on it. Feel like it would more just take away the main thing that distinguishes Damage from everything else. Damage was also the first full album I heard from the band though, so I'm sure I have at least a little bias.
I really came around hard on Damage these past couple years. The first run of five songs is just immaculate
