I was at the red rocks show and it was definitely the wind messing with the sound. There was a tiny bit of wind for near the end of MO and it messed with things a little for them too. The wind had died down a bit near the end and they sound much cleared then. It’s a bummer, but I still enjoyed them. Though, any band is going to sound a little worse when they follow MO. The same thing happened when I saw Leon Bridges a there. You could hear the wind messing with the openers a little, then it picked up more for Leon and kind of messed things up. I’ve only noticed it when I’m near the top of the venue though.
Just listened to Always Be for 30 minutes straight. My 4 year old is absolutely obsessed with that song.
I got her hooked on an obvious one with The Middle. Then she really liked Sweetness and Lucky Denver Mint. Then she went absolutely nuts for Here it Goes. It seems Chase This Light is her favorite, which totally makes sense when you think about how so much of that album is straight to the point catchy greatness.
Not sure what their rhyme or reason is for setlists on this tour but it’s interesting to me how they played Place Your Debts for a few shows at the beginning of the tour then dropped it. Same with opening with Congratulations, dropped it after a couple shows. Then randomly a few days ago in Texas they busted out the Congratulations/Place Your Debts combo again for one show and then went back to the same setlist they’ve had for most of the tour haha
I always thought it was weird that they opened shows with a six minute song that treads water for its first five minutes. I mean, I’m into the song, but very odd choice as an opener
Personally I would love Congratulations as an opener (and am hoping for it next week) but I could see 97% of the crowd being confused by it.
I think they are realizing that those songs are maybe more suited for a headlining JEW tour for hardcore fans, and they might be boring the MO crowd.
