MO is the definition of POWER live. Highly recommend seeing them for yourself. A trick I always do if I am going to see a band I'm either not familiar with, or don't care to see, is track their setlists and listen to those songs before the show. If it's not my thing, I don't make them a priority.
Also post on Reddit said it was definitely the wind. It happens at times at Red Rocks because of the way it can be a wind tunnel. Common to be good for openers and then shitty for headlining acts.
Was also at the Red Rocks show but luckily didn't notice any sound issues. It was my 20th time seeing Jimmy Eat World and during the early part of their set I noticed some lightning in the distance behind the stage but luckily all we got (in my section) was a slight breeze and then a light sprinkle of rain during A Praise Chorus which felt like a truly beautiful moment in such an iconic venue.
Seems like the set changed a good bit for us in STL tonight from beginning of tour but they destroyed as always
Of course, amazing band. When they perform live they sound as good as on their studio albums. Lead singer has an incredible voice. Also they tend to play faster/heavier live, compared to their slower paced albums. For example they play stuff closer to the song, Shake It Out, instead of songs like the Sunshine. Both excellent, but different.
i was at Red Rocks too, and agree with you 100%. you could barely hear Jim on most songs (exception was "HEar You Me", likely because its such a quiet song). there are lots of posts on the Jimmy Eat World subreddit complaining about their sound on this tour, not just at Red Rocks. the wind at RR can be a factor, but it wasnt THAT much windier for JEW than it was for Manchester Orchestra, and MO sounded amazing. it was disappointing for sure. and for the guy who asked if Manchester Orchestra was worth it to get their early....1000%. they blew me away
Yeah they sounded great at mine too I didn't realize red rocks has a reputation for sound issues with the wind tho. I've always wanted to see a show there
I'll second that! First time seeing Jimmy, and they were phenomenal. Wish we could have gotten Congratulations or Dizzy, but I can hardly complain with how incredible they sounded. I've seen Manchester more than any other band at this point, and they continue to impress as they accelerate and groove on nearly every song they pull out. All in all, a stellar show.
They’ve had two variations of the setlist, but yeah it appears they may have scrapped that as the opener lately.
I imagine this is a risky question to ask, but if I've never listened to Clarity in full and want to appreciate it, would I be better off at this point listening to the Phoenix Sessions version? Normally I'm a purist with this sort of thing and would go for the original, but those Sessions performances just sound so mature.
Sorry, but yeah, that is an odd question. Listen to the original. It’s my favorite album of theirs and one of my favorites of all-time, if not my actual favorite. If you want to hear a live version afterward, go for the sessions.
