Ultimately, I do agree that they made a decently sized leap from Clarity to Bleed American, but I do think BA still definitely carries traces of the Clarity with it.
Haha I figured you'd bring up YNA. I really don't feel like that song is all that aggressive honestly
I do agree with you on this, but I think the key is for me that every record after Clarity (except Damage) feels so much more glossy than Clarity.
And I feel like after Clarity their songwriting generally got more straightforward and melody centric
Maybe aggressive wasn't the right word for me to use. Perhaps edgy? I think both songs definitely have a bite to them. Then yeah I definitely agree with you as far as their sonic direction goes.
I don't hear it in Get It Faster. Cautioners and My Sundown are the only two I think you could realistically stick on Clarity and have it maybe sorta fit
I totally get what you mean with that, I just don't think that bleed American would fit so well on clarity haha. To be fair, I consider it on outlier on bleed american too tho
So in that sense it was probably wrong of me to call Clarity inaccessible, I experienced it as such because I'm a fan of more glossy and pop driven music
I could see get it faster being a set up to my sundown. Damn. That would actually be cool. Might like the song better like that It's almost like bleed is split completely in half with pop songs on the front half and ballads/relatively more experimental songs on the back half...except authority song haha
I sometimes forget that Static Prevails and Clarity were major label records. It seems crazy now, not to mention the fact that Bleed American was recorded without a label.
Yeah exactly! It's almost like they were in the studio and thought "is this too poppy maybe? Should we maybe put in some darker/more experimental tracks for the Clarity lovers?" Or something.
I figured Get It Faster would be a stretch haha. To me, it's got that darker feel to it that Ken described for YNA
Clarity is the only JEW record @Jose visits regularly. Granted, he has only listened to that and Futures, and he's been meaning to revisit Futures for a while now (psst go do that)
