I’ve listened to episodes of fairly prominent music podcasts where the hosts are discussing an album they’ve heard once, and the discussion is “Well, I liked this song and this song, but I don’t remember these five songs and therefore they must be bad, so I’ve deleted them and made this into a shorter album/EP. Psychopaths.
I can't remember how many times I've forgotten how a song goes only to listen to it again and remember that it fuckin' rules.
I couldn't agree more with this. JEW is an exception... but if someone put out a standalone single that was 8 minutes long it would more than likely strongly deter me from listening to it. But an 8 minute track somewhere on an hour long record? Hell yeah
People still sit through movies, binge watching TV shows, read books….all which takes hours. considering the average age range of Jimmy fans, and they way they’ve carved out their career, going to a singles only release method is a weird decision to me. It may work for a younger, more popular artist, where the audience consumes their music differently. It’s hard for people/bands to make full albums interesting, fresh and relistenable. Jimmy does that so darn well. I don’t know what the financial side dictates, but their market is used to albums and EPs. You can tell by how passionately people talk about and rank their albums over and over. Singles can fall through the cracks, even when the song is good.
Jimmy Eat World always has been and always will be an 'album' band. The full album experience with these guys is where they're at their best and most consistent, especially in this genre/scene. Like, it's in their DNA as a band. Those 'deep cut' moments are a major part of the my experience being an avid JEW listener and fan. I truly hope they're just going to do this singles thing to hash out some creative urges, test the market, and then get back to who they are and what they've mastered so consistently.
Trying to fill some holes in the vinyl collection and damn, not a lot out there these days. Bleed American, Integrity Blues, and Surviving seem to be the only ones I can find readily available and I already have all 3.
It’s wild to see the massive resurgence of vinyl happening over the last decade combined with the decline of people interested in listening to complete albums.
Being a kid when Napster took off, I remember hearing a lot about how it was great specifically because “Then you don’t have to pay $20 to buy the CD for the one song you like!” Definitely made me think that “albums with only one song I like” were going to be a lot more common than they ended up being.
Contact Us Their search function is super annoying, lmk if you want me to text the owner lol. If you contact him, his name is John! Tell him redhead Jacob sent ya!
Thinking about how bands put out their own liquor and wondering if Jimmy's ever considered putting one out called "Chase This Shot".
