I heard the middle first like many. Bought bleed american and it didn't leave an impression on me at the time. I was young and angsty and it wasn't as emo and dark as what I was listening to then I guess. Then the middle randomly came on one day and it was just one of those perfect song at the perfect time things. Even tho I'd heard it before, it just hit at the right moment of life and made a big impact and then I became obsessed with them and the album and then Futures released shortly after so it was their first era I got to be part of as it was happening and they've been my fave ever since
he dunks on 3eb SO much that as time goes on it feels less like Jenkins is a dick in general and feels more just like a personal vendetta
stephan jenkins is a terrible fucking person and if i had to witness the shit zach witnessed on tour with him i would never shut up about how fucking awful he is either
So I referenced before booking Jimmy Eat World earlier. But there’s a funny tie in where the agent we were working with was kinda guiding us and one of the bands we considered was 3eb and he was like “nahhhh it’ll sell well but Jenkins is an asshole and will definitely scream at some freshman for no reason.”
Watching the Futures phoenix sessions while my daughter naps on me. Everything is awesome. Would be even more awesome if they did another phoenix sessions and gave us the rest of the discography.
It really makes me wonder why they didn't do it as a full on series (hopefully it still happens). I'm sure its a daunting task, but if Bad Religion can play, record, and mix 8 one hour sets/episodes and not repeat a single song, these guys can do it too haha. Combine the performances with a limited live discography vinyl boxset......and voila.
I just listened to Bleed American in full for the first time in my life. Not like this thread needs to hear this but yeah… Easy 10. I can’t imagine hearing it in 2001. Ahead of its time for sure. I’ve always LOVED their big singles (shoutout to NHL 2003, GOATed soundtrack) but im gonna have to do a full discography run ASAP
If touring is back bands may not throw the time and money into these live sets anymore (unless they are turning a healthy profit to justify it). I would have been cool to see JEW do more albums live, but I’d rather new music so much more.
Just listened to Surving two times all way through because once just wasn’t enough after not listening to it in a long time. Its like if Chase This Light and Integrity Blues had a baby. It has the energy and catchiness of CTL mixed perfectly with the patience and creative beauty of IB. It has the best parts of both albums, which makes its super challenging to rank amongst their discography.
they don’t have a bad album, even the self titled is a scrappy fun debut of a bunch of what, 15 and 16 year olds? playing skate punk. Every other album is great at worst.
I feel like Jimmy Eat World are like Motion City Soundtrack and those types of bands that I really enjoy, I just regularly forget they exist until I hear one of their songs and think "Damn, this is a good band!" Then I forget again, repeat the process.
This is myself and Gaslight Anthem - go on huge binges of them maybe once a year and then forget about 'em again
They're a band I really dig but never looked much last the singles. Wasn't their last album kinda bad? What would you recommend as a starter point?
The 59 sound probably Definitely agree. That song is gorgeous This is crazy to me haha. I didn’t realize there were people on this site who hadn’t heard bleed American. Have you listened to their other stuff?
