Is it sacrilege to suggest that 'Jen' should have remained on Futures? The copy I first heard had it included and I fell it love with it - only to see it disappear
I don’t think it flows with the rest of the album at all. Thought it was the right call leaving it off.
Jen was pulled for a number of reasons, one of them being a copyright dispute they didn't want to press ahead on. Same though, I can't imagine the album with it on, such a jarring change of pace between The World You Love and Pain.
I like "Jen" more than a handful of songs on Futures, but I can't imagine where it would fit on that record. Just not the right vibe at all.
I haven't heard open bar reception in so long...why cant I find a damn video of this? its not on streaming services any where is it?
i don’t think i’ve ever heard that song however, disintegration should absolutely replace night drive
I just think that night drive is such an important piece vibe and production-wise. it sounds so good. imo if disintegration replaces anything it should be drugs (but I still do think that it kinda feels like its own thing) (but they should play it every show)
I don't think "Disintegration" slots into Futures that well. "Closer" is the one that might work within the context of that album, and could probably swap in for "Drugs." I wouldn't lose "Night Drive," though, that song has a great climactic energy that really sets up the end of that album for me.
I always thought “Shame” would’ve been cool as permanent track on the album. The vinyl I have has that as the last song. Weird spot considering 23 is right before it haha. But still a very solid song. “Big Cars” is cool too, but I feel like that could’ve been good for “CTL”.
Oh yeah, “Shame” would fit too. I don’t mind having it come on as a sort of epilogue at the end of the vinyl.
I 100% agreed with this opinion until the livestream and now I think “Drugs” is a top 10 song they have because of how open, painful and beautiful it sounded live. I think you could put Closer after Kill. It feeds that depressive middle section. Kill is about wanting to walk away from something bad, Closer is about telling yourself you’re gonna do it and then The World You Love is about not doing it because you’re only worried about what everyone else thinks and as bad as you want out, you’re not gonna do it. This band. THIS BAND.
Nearly the same here. Top five openers: Futures Big Casino Bleed American Appreciation You With Me Top five closers: 23 Pol Roger My Sundown Goodbye Sky Harbor Congratulations edit: can’t believe I forgot My Sundown
OPENERS: Futures Big Casino Surviving Table For Glasses Bleed American CLOSERS: 23 Dizzy Congratulations Goodbye Sky Harbor My Sundown
"shame" is the one b-side i'd put on futures, and i'd put it on there over anything on stay on my side tonight (those songs don't fit!!!)
Shame works after 23 though too. I personally love when bands release a lot of content around an album. Some bsides, a covers and alt versions, an acoustic versions...whatever.
While we’re on the subject, ‘Bleed American’ might be the best opener on any album. Not just JEW. It’s at least on a very, very short list. Also, I love ‘You Were Good’ as a closer. All their other albums have giant, sweeping, cinematic, epic closers, and they’re all incredible and help define those records. That one? One guitar, what sounds like some keys as background ambient noise, and Jim. It’s perfect for that album in particular - sparse, half broken sounding, and almost haunting. I really, REALLY love it.
I do like the big guitar riff intros they have like Futures, Surviving and Bleed American. Kind of cool that those songs also became album titles.
This is in the regular tracklist for the first press vinyl and not just tacked on as a bonus track and it actually works pretty well slotted in like that
It used to be on Youtube but got pulled Check here https://www.reddit.com/r/JimmyEatWo..._anybody_know_where_i_can_listen_to_open_bar/
