You should start with Static. There’s some really great songs on there, despite the rough production quality.

 

Was wondering when you would comment on my list. I’m not that big of a Clarity fan. Sorry. Me ranking it that low isn’t me saying it’s bad. When a band has such a good discography, some of the albums simply have to be towards the bottom.

 

i, who ranks everything, understand how ranking works. it isn’t “wow they must think this is bad because it’s near the bottom.” it’s “how on earth does a person with ears think invented or surviving are better than clarity.”

 

I think Surviving is better than Clarity. "Better" as in, I like it more. Never connected with Clarity like I do Surviving. But I still do like Clarity. Looking back at the track list on Clarity I can't recall how the melody or how they sound in about half the songs. Clarity for me would be toward the bottom....... I'm not sure if thats above or below Invented. They are both down there......

 

1. Because im more of a fan of their guitar driven material?
2. Because im more of a fan of guitar driven stuff in general?
3. Because invented (song) is better than anything off of clarity?
4. Because surviving is awesome?
5. Because i have my own opinions?

Idk. Maybe i dont have ears i guess?

To add: I really did connect with Lucky Denver Mint and Believe in What You Want way back when. Back when I first heard about JEW(Middle). I downloaded a bunch of stuff off Kazaa; Bleed American Stuff as well as Splash Turn Twist, Last Christmas, and those two tracks off of Clarity. I don't think I had BA tracks in order for some time.

Liking other records more is not an insult to Clarity, but a complement to the other record listed higher.

You could say the same thing for every other album as well. Great bands who have been around for decades connect to fans differently.

Also, I still want those Surviving b-sides if they finished them. I’d be curious as well if they had a few more Surviving era songs how that could alter the ranking.

 

i am doing a discog run today. may or may not rank afterwards but that is for me to decide thanks.

Clarity has that very raw production sound similar to Coheed's SSTB, is that just off putting to some people? the songs are all incredible.

 

Have Jimmy members done a “rank your albums” thing anywhere?

 

I mean I think clarity is a masterpiece but I can absolutely get why people might not love it the most, especially if they’re more drawn to the poppier sound

 

I think that most of their records are good enough that I wouldn't really be upset at any of them being someone's favorite. that's fun to me

 

the run from clarity to chase this light is pretty perfect. the “worst” is like an 8.5 for me.

just finished damage in the run through. i’ve said my piece on static prevails. invented has some fun songs and some clunkers. title track rules. damage is ... not good. like three solid songs with a few of their worst (hello please say no)

Appreciation would appear in my top ten probably. the record would appear toward the bottom of my list BUT I do love a good Damage spin in the springtime.

 

Awesome production, awesome sound. Essentially perfect. Also heavily produced/edited so it doesn’t just look like a few guys playing songs in an empty room or a bedroom. It looked very music video like. 110% worth the money to watch.

instead I will say I listened to Static Prevails in full for maybe the first time ever(?) last night and it was fucking good. I was kinda shocked bc I just accepted it was a weak link in their discog bc of how everyone talks about it, but if anything it’s just more of an outlier due to the split vocal duties. love the energy, love the 90s emo vibes, LOVE the drum sounds, and think it probably now would rank higher for me than some of their later material that I’m not super fond of. probably going to go through the discog over the next few days so I can solidify a ranking since we’re riding that wave rn.

 

Which songs on damage do you like?

Always kinda felt like I was the only static defender around here so I’m very glad to see you dig it. Also not very surprised haha

 

Yeah I enjoyed Clarity so much yesterday I will probably listen to Static Prevails for the first time ever today
