definitely don’t dislike it by any means. it’s halfway to a great record. they kinda perfected that sound on clarity. just need less tom singing lol
I actually like Tom’s voice, especially for that style, but it’s for sure a lesser version of clarity. Seventeen’s always been one of their most underrated for me though
I’m also a sucker for blatant Christie front drive ripoffs, which fits a fair portion of static prevails
Static Prevails definitely comes before they've fully coalesced their sound, but I think it's so much fun looking at all the different directions they could have gone. it's definitely flawed and would be low on my list, but I love listening to it
I read this as "there's a reason they moved off Tom Petty quickly," and I was like, "Pat, what the fuck are you talking about?"
I don’t even think Clarity is even in my top five JEW records. It’s a great album, but these guys have the world’s most perfect discography.
While we’re here: I know it’s the one they play the most off of and it has the song everyone associates them with, but I’ve revisited Bleed American quite a bit recently, and I think there’s a strong case to be made that it’s the GOAT pop rock album, period. It’s just absolutely flawless, and I’m always hesitant to say so because it seems like such a casual fan thing to say. But it’s really that good, I think.
