both surviving and IB are very well-constructed, i'd go as far as to say the sequencing makes the latter invented is a great record despite being imperfect, i wouldn't say the lack of a lead single if you remove "my best theory" is a strike against it at all, it's a more atmospheric and mood-based record all around. in fact i think that's the problem; the brief breaks in that mood are very dissonant and feel like concessions
i don’t think it’s crazy. they’re nowhere near as good as the run from clarity through chase this light but it’s fine. it’s kinda wild how many parallels there are between their career and Weezer’s
Can't agree with that. Weezer's post-Maladroit albums have some gems, but are waaaaay less consistent than Jimmy Eat World's last four albums.
I’m out on that argument simply because you couldn’t pay me to listen to any weezer all the way through
I guess I always looked at weezer as a whole as a parody in and of itself. I know there is that one record of critical acclaim but yeah...it’s lost on me
i’d rather have White album than anything post Chase This Light but i meant it more in the arc of each of the bands careers starting off with a few bangs, taking a dip for a few albums, and then coming back in terms of critical reception and with fans, if not the general public
Invented charted at 11 on the Billboard 200 and got favorable reviews from critics. Damage charted at 14 on the Billboard 200 and got favorable reviews from critics. Integrity Blues charted at 17 on the Billboard 200 and got favorable reviews from critics. Surviving charted at 90 on the Billboard 200 and got favorable reviews from critics. I haven’t a clue how that parallels Weezer at all. I also haven’t a clue how that means people don’t like them after CTL. I mean, sure - CTL peaked at #5 on the Billboard chart. But 2007 was a much, MUCH different music scene. And the only real time JEW didn’t sell well was Surviving, which hardly seems like a reflection of how the fan base feels about them. JEW and Weezer are polar opposites. One is the model of consistency and one is so up and down even its most diehard fans hate them half the time. Literally, Weezer was an SNL joke for the way their fans feel about them; JEW is 100% the opposite.
i would not say JEW is the “model of consistency” considering their last three albums are nowhere near the same level as their classic run lol but go off
also literally every weezer album released has charted higher than the JEW albums you mentioned except pacific daydream, which still was higher than surviving? what? did you just not bother looking it up lol? they’ve had only two albums debut outside of the top 10 in 25 years. speaking of consistency.
As someone who listened to Jimmy Eat World's discography for the first time ever within the last year, I find them to be one of the most consistent bands ever. Especially for a band that's been around as long as they have. Obviously this has nothing to do with chart positions, but still.
i love jimmy eat world but everything that person used in their argument to separate the two also applies to weezer, who carted higher and received similar critical reviews lol
