It’s entirely possible Invented is my favorite album ever. It’s my favorite album by JEW, and they’re definitely on my Mount Rushmore. I’m not sure anything is better at least, even if a couple albums are right there with it, I’d say.
“Stop” came up on shuffle tonight, really liked it, not sure how I ever passed over it. Really like “Evidence” and “Coffee + Cigarettes” too
When I talked to him a few years ago Zach said that making Futures was “excruciating.” Pretty sure they had a falling out with Trombino midway through, judging by the fact that they started the album with him but Gil Norton ended up being the producer. I’d be interested in doing some sort of oral history at some point to learn more about what the hell happened on that record.
Coffee & Cigs is a classic sounding Jimmy Eat World song but never really "fit" in to Invented for me. Am I alone in this thinking? I see it's a lot of people's favourite from that album but I've always considered it a bit 'paint-by-numbers'-Jimmy Eat World within a really different and expansive sounding album
Invented is a very good album. The only album that doesn’t sit at that high level for me is Damage, and that’s not even saying it’s a bad album. Like i’ve said before, the most consistent band ever.
i think “coffee” fits perfect on invented, it has the same airy introspective vibe as the rest of the record “my best theory,” however. (still really love that song anyway)
I don’t like that song either, sounds like it could have been on Folie A Deux (which I do like, I just don’t think it’s a style that works for JEW)
