I'd actually love to see Invented or Damage swapped in for Integrity Blues. I feel those less-appreciated albums might get a new lease of life with this style of recording. The Surviving show was phenomenal. They always sound incredible live, but it's amazing to finally see a recording do them justice. Truly one of the GOATs to still be at the top of their game after all these years.
They’ve been calling surviving album ten since they announced it. Not sure why the shift, but it’s been there for a while now
Speculation but imo it's borne out by the precarious touring situation. I expect them to push all touring plans to next year.
Damage would benefit from a re-recording or a performance like this a TON. The few songs they play from it live always sound great. I would love to see it.
Damage’s production bothers me a lot less than it used to, but it’s still a letdown based solely on how great their records normally sound.
I feel like at least one more round of this sort of shows may be in order given how it's not looking good in terms of concerts resuming any time in the next 9 months at least. I think I'd most like to see them do Bleed American, Chase This Light, and Invented in a hypothetical second round.
Also, in the pre-show when they said they had only done 27 shows on Surviving before the pandemic happened I instantly felt so fortunate that I was able to be at one of those shows.
Jim said somewhere that they're open to doing more of the full album shows. I don't remember which interview it was or I'd source it. lol
Honestly, the fact that they went with a rougher production style is one of the reasons Damage is my favorite record by them. It makes it really distinct, and I think it works perfectly with those songs. I don’t know. I love everything about that album.
I was always surprised at how little of Invented they played. I saw them twice on that tour, and I think I only heard the following live: Evidence My Best Theory Movielike Coffee and Cigarettes Action Needs an Audience Invented So, some good songs left untouched there.
Evidence absolutely SLAYS live. That riff is so titanic and simple. It’s like a sledgehammer of pleasure straight to my groin and heart.
