Gonna have to go ahead and disagree with whoever said that Jim's vocal on "Dizzy" acoustic is better than the studio version. Both are great, but his singing on the studio version is the best he's ever sounded, IMO. He sings the absolute shit out of it, and it's not an easy song to sing.
I always thought he sounded much more emotional on the acoustic version. I will admit though that I also like the slightly changed lyric a lot more on the acoustic one. It makes much more sense to me. That may play a factor.
You guys are going to make me go listen to "Dizzy" right now... Also, I think we all know that slam dunk GIF is going to apply to the whole damn album!
I just did it. Both versions. I think I have always drastically discounted just how fucking great of a vocal performance Jim gives on the actual album version of "Dizzy". It is definitely one for the ages. I can safely say that I don't think either version of the song is 'better' now- they are both absolutely amazing - but the actual album version certainly fits the album much better. One of the best songs ever.
I do like the changed lyric more as well. But everything else about the studio version just kills me. It's such a massive-sounding song, and Jim is just going for it.
The song always makes me think about a relationship that is coming apart - a very specific one for me, if I am being honest - and I know we sure as hell didn't talk about much at that point, but we certainly talked around worlds of shit.
Dizzy = great song Jimmy Eat World knows to close records. 23, and a bunch of other goodness. It doesn’t even feel like they do it on purpose.
Jimmy E, Yellowcard/WRK, Thrice/Dustin and any Brian Fallon project/Gaslight/Crowes always seem to have great closers.
more nakedness and vulnerability to his voice in the acoustic version. the studio version sounds perfect because it was designed to be perfect. the acoustic version is flawed which is what makes it appealing.
Literally his vocal performance in the last verse of the original studio version is unreal. An absolute top moment of their discography. The production and everything on that track is perfect. I wonder the story behind "about" vs. "around" in the two versions
Is this the one I made a few years ago? Looks like about the same order. I haven’t listened to that playlist in a bit, but I remember loving it.
whoa whoa whoa whoa... whoa!!! you have a descent quality copy of big cars?? any chance you could send it my way? thanks!!
