I was at the show last night. The divide in quality between JEW and TEB was immense. I only knew the big TEB songs, but their set was quite the mess.

 

I trust Zach that if it wasn't something major, he wouldn't have let the Jesse Lacey comparison happen.

 

Anyone with more than a passing knowledge of this band should know Jenkins is not only an ass but a really shitty person.

 

While funny, this isn’t revelatory. Any promo photo of 3EB has them all wearing black for years now and you just know whose dumbass mandate that was.

Love SJ as a songwriter but there’s something fundamentally wrong with him as a person, listen to him talk for 5 minutes and even I’m creeped out by his smarmy effete manner of interacting with people.

 

My favorite bizarre self aggrandizing SJ story is in the Rank Your Records piece where he basically says that he gave Obama a pep talk and helped him become president

 

I remember when Jenkins was on one of those vh1 best of the 90s thing and they brought up his womanizing ways and he was like "oh darling you're making me blush" and the smarm jumped out. But I always thought he was just an arrogant jerk. If he has legit predatory and abusive behavior that will be so distressing espesh given how long the band has been active and that he's had access to ppl.

the worst story i ever heard about stephan jenkins before this was him bursting into a freestyle rap about inappropriate sexual stuff in front of particularly young fans, which, that’s from a tumblr post i read a thousand years ago so i could be misrepresenting it

he’s always been someone who bought into his own rockstar myth without actually having much to show for it, he’s like cocaine on legs, and he’s such an asshole, and i’ve written several times about how i struggle with enjoying an artist who’s such an egomaniacal shithead yet who exhibits a weirdly incredible empathy in his work in songs like “wounded” and “water landing.” however i also recently looked up the age gap between him and vanessa carlton and folks it ain’t good. i hope the creep stuff doesn’t extend as far as zach’s implying. but :(

I agree with that whole post until the Vanessa Carlton comment. They starting dating when he was 38 and she was 22, why is this bothersome to people? It's surely indicative of immaturity on his part, but what else am I missing? Two adults dated, for 5 years.

Also I kinda hate that we're hijacking the JEW thread with an album so close

 

sixteen years is a big age gap for me, not into it, makes me feel very bad about the situation given everything else i know about who he is as a person, i'm not judging how other people feel about it
