Dizzy accomplishes more and has a bigger emotional impact in a shorter amount of time. In my opinion it's better by quite a bit. I still love 23
I mean, aside from the chorus and the "stranger still it seems, I'll be 23" part there isn't much to 23 IN MY OPINION
I can and that might make the difference. And again I love 23, I played it on my last birthday and nearly cried, I just think Dizzy is better
Yeah, I imagine lyrical connection is what makes Dizzy for a lot of people, since musically I don't think it's anything special at all... probably gonna get moaned at for that statement too haha.
CAN WE PLEASE ALL AGREE ALL THREE SONGS ARE GREAT? Sheesh. It's JEW, everyone. J. E. W. There is no grey area!!!
My "Best of Jimmy Eat World" mix: 1. For Me This Is Heaven 2. 23 3. For Me This Is Heaven 4. 23 5. For Me This Is Heaven 6. 23 7. For Me This Is Heaven 8. 23 9. For Me This Is Heaven 10. 23
Usually I roll my eyes when threads turn into rank fests but I actually think it's fun for JEW for whatever reason
My top 3s by album: Clarity Ten Crush Cautioners Your House Get It Faster Kill 23 Just Tonight... Carry You Dizzy Always Be Invented Cut Littlething Appreciation No, Never Book of Love
The majority of your favorite song in the catalog is: I promised I'd see it again I promised I'd see this with you now I promised I'd see it again I promised I'd see this with you now I said, said, said it out loud over and over Said, said, said it out loud but what do I know Said, said, said it out loud over and over I said, said, said it out loud over and over Said, said, said it out loud but it did not help I'll stop now just so I can hear you I stay up as late as it takes I promised I'd see it again I promised I'd see this with you now I promised I'd see it again I promised I'd see this with you now I said, said, said it out loud over and over Said, said, said it out loud but it did not help I'll stop now just enough so I can hear you I stay up as late as it takes I stay up as late as it takes I stay up as late as it takes As long as it takes As long as it takes As long as it takes I stay up as late as it takes As long it takes There's no "more" to that than there is to "23." They're both songs that are great because of their crescendos. I'd say "Dizzy" is better than both just reading the lyrics, but the instrumental work pushes "23" over the top, IMO.
Honestly, how anyone's favorite JEW song can come from Clarity is beyond me anyway, but that's just me being weird over here.
Eh, agree to disagree on that. I think the lyrics in "23" and how Jim sings them are more genuinely emotional than him just singing the same lines over and over and over again in "Fireworks." The chorus of "23" in particular is way more emotionally resonant, IMO, largely because of the beauty of the words. But I've never been as taken with the lyrics on Clarity anyway. I think there's more substance, detail, and narrative arc to Jim's later work.
