Weird that theres a version of Futures where Jen is like track 6 and the other tracks are pushed down.
Memories of "Jen," burning Futures in like, late August of 2004 when that song was still on the final tracklist. Then they took it off when it came out a few months later. Took me years to get used to not hearing it on there lol
i think i agree with you on this. i think ByeByeLove would be my least favorite on Damage and its still a really good song.
There just aren't really any dips. Plus it's got concision on its side. If any of their other records were 10 songs, they would all be perfect too.
I actually wish Step One had been included in the tracklist since its on of JEWs best songs. But yeah the 10 tracks means theres absolutely no flab and no weak points. It doesnt have a "Dizzy" or a "Just Watch The Fireworks" or a "Kill", but its got consistency and thats worth a lot.
Damage is fairly consistent, but definitely at a lower level overall than Invented for me. I like Higher Devotion more than a bunch of Damage songs and still prefer Action to the lower tier Damage songs.
Invented is ranked pretty low for me. I don't hate it, but most of the songs don't really hit me. And I feel like almost every song is exactly the same. Intro/verse/chorus/v/c/guitar solo/chorus That's partly why I loved Damage so much, they brought back their lyrical bridges. They are usually pretty damn good.
These statements both blow my mind, haha. I can't remember, was Invented your introduction to JEW, or was that @jordalsh?
I mean, "Invented" is probably my fourth or fifth favorite JEW song. But then I would probably hit four Damage songs before I'd rank another Invented song.
I will say Higher Devotion is the best running song ever, and when I took up running a few years ago it was all JEW all the time. The build up to the instrumental bridge/the bridge itself make me go like two mph faster immediately every time. It's a jolt of energy. That certainly colors my perception, I'm sure, on that song. But doesn't account for the rest of the record, which I just think is perfect.
Consistently boring... Okay, that's not true. But Somebody's Blues sinks that record a lot for me. It's the middle track and it does a lot of damage for me.
Nooooooooo Haha And it's not the middle track. I'm dumb. Edit: that's how low that song takes it for me. I wish the album was shorter. Haha
Chase This Light is probably my second favorite JEW record. One of the most underrated albums I can think of.
ya Gotta Be Somebodys Blues is great and a nice little change of pace on a record thats pretty consistently upbeat.
I have nothing overly negative to say about the album. But it doesn't have nearly enough highs to be in my top 3.
