I can't really wrap my mind over part 1... what did the twitter poster say on twitter that got him kicked out of a show? part 2... plenty of artists do expensive shit like that. Doesn't Paramore do a cruise? I don't see people giving them shit about that. Defining "Punk" is a fools errand... but if it's pissing you off, Frank might be on to something. It's not like Frank doesn't tour a ton otherwise with reasonably priced tickets. I saw him for $20 a month or so ago. part 3 - this sounds pretty bad. "refused to cut an incredibly misogynistic song from his set (despite knowing it was problematic and even stating that onstage) bcos it was part of the album and he had to play it in full (??)" <-- what song is that?
As someone already pointed out, this is really not the place for this discussion buuuuuuuut since the pots already been stirred. #1 is a *very* one-sided explanation of a crappy situation where it sounds like everyone acted like assholes. The OP writes all that as if he is some kind of angel off to choir practice when it reads as if he is a belligerent drunk asshole who looks back at a night of drunken stupor and whines about all the people picking on him. There is way more to this story. #2 - I'm not going to be mad at Frank Turner because doing things as an adult in real life is expensive. That's just life. A bunch of my extended family are going on a cruise this summer and they want my wife and kids and I to go with them but we really can't swing it right now. Am I mad at my family for picking a nice cruise? No. Is Frank Turner supposed to pretend to be poor for some kind of f---ed up street cred?? I really don't get this one at all. I LOVE the band My Morning Jacket. One of my all time favorite bands. I would describe myself as a huge fan. They do some kind of destination concert thing every year to Mexico. I would never consider going in a million years and a huge reason for that is because the amount it costs - while perfectly reasonable in today's world and for what is included - is more than I would ever want to spend on a music related thing right now. I don't begrudge the band for putting it on though or any of the many fans who go and enjoy the hell out of the whole thing. #3 This one is the only one where I would even say there is a chance Frank Turner's behavior is questionable at all, but even then I'm not jumping to conclusions without more information. This reads like the person has a huge personal axe to grind against Frank. I know I've seen Frank post pics lately from the venues he plays excitedly pointing out how good the access is. Is there a chance he is a completely full of shit hypocrite...? Yeah, of course. I've never met the guy. But I'm not ready to jump on that bandwagon based on one person's ranting on Twitter, especially when it runs completely counter to everything else I've seen and read about the guy.
I still don’t understand what most of these words mean. Him being a giant dickhead has become a ridiculous amount of work for me. Just stoked for more JEW shows for people to see. I don’t know who frank turner is, even.
Part 1 and Part 2 examples left out an incredible amount of detail for me to fully understand what even happened? Frank’s music is awesome, in fact one of top artists. His live shows are top notch. I’ve had email chats with him multiple times, met him a few times, and I have NEVER left thinking anything less that he was a genuinely good person who really cares about playing music and cares about his fans. He’s treated me with incredible respect, so I have nothing but positive words for him. I’m curious about those stories and bummed to read them, but I’m definitely unaware of all of that. Will look more into it!
Sinai Vessel is awesome, and Caleb is one of the coolest, sweetest guys I’ve met. I was ecstatic to see that exchange with JEW work out the way it did.
"Integrity Blues" is their newest album, and most tend to love it. If you liked "Futures," you should enjoy it! "Damage" was the album previous - I personally love it, but it's a grower for a lot of folks. "Invented" was the album right after "Chase This Light" and is probably the most unique album of theirs. It's hard to describe - I find it to be a really cool mix of styles.
Never too late to hear a great Jimmy Eat World album! They have a couple new tracks out this year, actually - "Love Never" and "Half Heart." (I edited my previous post, also!)
The set last night was great, though the sound was a bit loud. I was surprised by the amount of Futures songs (6). Kinda crazy how they can play 25 songs and leave me wanting more.
Excellent set though. I was really happy to finally see If You Don't, Don't live. I wish they would have played You With Me... probably my favorite from Integrity Blues.
