I don't like to skip anything when I listen to an album front to back. I guess it helps that this band writes a lot of quality music. I don't even skip Action Needs An Audience, which is my least favorite song they've written that's made it onto an album since Static Prevails. It's not even bad, just an alright song.
Yea, I am way more of an album type of listener. I jam full albums, even weaker tracks. If I don't like more than a couple songs it's going to be very rare that I revisit that particular album.
In his defense, I do think he was referring to the song itself in a roundabout way, not commenting on its title. Still not something I agree with at all, though.
Speaking of Big Casino, this band's closing tracks are always highly praod (and justifiably so), but their opening tracks are fantastic as well: Table For Glasses, Bleed American, Futures, Big Casino, Heart Is Hard To Find, Appreciation. If you want to include it, there's Disintegration as well.
Did you all just conspire to make this the thread of shitty hot takes? What the hell happened in here?
I actually think I'd give Damage the consistency award. I think almost every other record has higher highs, but that one is extremely cohesive and doesn't really dip in quality. Like I said, "Lean" is the "weak point" for me, but is still pretty great, and fits better in the album than some of the other weak points in the band's discography. I always think of Invented as lower-tier JEW, for some reason. I really love it, but it lacks that extra something to elevate it to favorite status. Maybe it just doesn't mean as much to me personally as most of their other stuff. Or maybe it's "Higher Devotion" and "Action" bringing it down. Not really sure. Either way, probably my number 5 of the catalog, though I go back and forth on everything after number 1.
Confession: I had been listening to "Futures" in the wrong order for almost 11 years lol. I was really young when one of my uncles gave me a burnt CD copy of Futures, and all the tracks were scrambled with "Jen" thrown in the middle of it hahaha
I mean, it's whatever haha. I was in the 4th grade when he gave me that CD, and I had been using those files forever
