I think damage and IB have the best. Followed by some order of futures, chase, and invented. Then clarity then bleed.
Yep. I remember the thread where Damage was announced and people were ripping on the cover art. People weren't too fond of the Integrity Blues art either.
I remember people trying to tell me they could make that in Microsoft paint, with me being like OK do it I’ll give you money for it, and they never came back or proved it .
Ah yes, the "this album art sucks because MS paint" argument. Feel like we've seen that a few times over the years.
Damage never clicked with me, but I think there were several factors that led to this for me. 1.) Chase This Light is actually my favorite JEW album (I loved it instantly when it came out and every song resonated with me for one reason or another) and I was very fond of at least 2/3 of Invented (“Heart” is one of my favorite songs they’ve ever written). I think after BA, Futures, CTL, and Invented I had come to expect the polished studio sheen (I don’t know if I’m wording this properly) and was disappointed with the raw, live sound they went for instead. Basically that was a me issue. I get that it tied in with what they were going for thematically, but it just wasn’t what I wanted, which, again, is my problem. I dig “Book Of Love” though. 2.) It was an “adult break up album” and it came out a year after I had happily married my childhood sweetheart who I’d been dating for the last seven years. This one is, again, unfair because there are a lot of breakups that are not romantic and, even if you’re in a happy, healthy relationship, that doesn’t negate the fact you’ve likely experienced heartache in the past and are capable of empathy. I guess I was just at a time in my life where I was genuinely really happy (and also very busy) and didn’t connect with it as a result and now I associate the album with that feeling no matter how hard I try to listen from a different perspective. I also felt like they’d tackled adult breakups really well in the past and I actually think it’s handled even better on Integrity Blues. IB has one of my favorite lyrics that feels like a callback to a Chase This Light B-side and it exemplifies their growth as people: 2007 - “Beautiful Is” “No one hears the things that I believe through the shouts The truth is something, baby, no one really knows” 2016 - “The End Is Beautiful” “You said, "However you go, I'll be cheering you on In the end, what's the difference how it all went wrong?" Hey, that's something The truth is what you believe it is” There’s more, but it’s late and I’m forgetting. It’s all personal preference for me and obviously I have issues with it that aren’t their problems. Either way I love the band as a whole and am so grateful they’re still at it after all these years.
Damage perfectly fit my break up when I was 16 and I had a really strong connection to it. I still look fondly on that album
I agree...Kill might be my favorite Jimmy Eat World song...I'm bummed it lost to 23...not surprised though.
I have randomly referenced Christina Aguilera's Lotus album twice today now, but if we're gonna talk ugly artwork like I legit had to go in and change it on my iTunes. All of this band's artwork is fine to me. I guess I see caring a lot if you buy vinyl cause a big appeal is the artistry but since I don't... I guess I rarely even see the artwork.

Much prefer the artwork on the Get Right and Sure and Certain singles to the Integrity Blues artwork. Wish they went with one of those two.

Yeah, and I really like the idea that years ago he says “no one hears the things that I believe through the shouts” and then years later he’s singled out a voice in the crowd that does hear him and supports him despite the failed relationship with “However you go, I’ll be cheering you on.”

Damage Bye Bye Love Book of Love Appreciation Damage has by far their most bizarre artwork. I've always liked their covers because they feel somehow attached to the music, and I just don't get that from the Damage cover. Their poses on the inside photos are pretty stupid looking too.
