Oh man I love Gotta Be Somebody's Blues. I feel like Polaris is a fan favorite, and I've never quite gotten why. It's a good song, but doesn't stand out at all to me, especially on an album as good as Futures. But people always seem to rave about it, and it got one of the best responses at their ten year tour. That's always sorta baffled me.
I think it's so boring and has some of their worst lyrics I love Polaris. I think it's got some of their best lyrics (although the lack of rhyming in the bridge always throws me off) and I think it's one of Jim's best vocal performances
I really enjoy the eerie subdued nature of Blues, and a big part of that is Jim's vocals on the songs. Plus, I really like how it sorta ends the first half of the album and then Feeling Lucky brings you right back in.
Yeah this is what I'm talking about. I'm just not hearing what other people are, which is sort of sad - I want to feel all those things too!
I have a playlist called 'JEWSLOW' which is basically just all the slow songs on all the albums in an order that seems coherent to me. That's one of my favorite things about the band - on paper, they're pop-rock/punk/alternative/whatever, but they write some of the most gorgeous slow songs the world had ever seen. Anyway - Gotta Be Someone's Blues makes me happy every time it showd up. It holds its own with 'Hear You Me' and 'Dizzy' and 'Drugs or Me' and the rest just fine.
Even the songs I like lesser than others I'll never skip b/c I dunno, it's JEW and it feels sacrilege.
I skip "Blues" on every non-vinyl listen to CTL. That's a song that I didn't like back in 2007 and that I like less now. Other than that and "Higher Devotion," I don't think I have any skippers. There are songs I like less than the rest of their respective albums ("12.23.95," "Nothingwrong," "Lean") but I don't really skip them.
I should probably get a Spotify account at some point. Here's the playlist, which is essentially perfect for a rainy afternoon or a night when you can't sleep: 1. Dizzy 2. Littlething 3. 12.23.95 4. A Sunday 5. Hear You Me 6. Nightdrive 7. Stop 8. Please Say No 9. Episode IV 10. Cut 11. For Me This Is Heaven 12. Gotta Be Somebody's Blues 13. Love Don't Wait (not technically JEW but close enough and it fits) 14. Invented 15. Claire 16. Just Watch the Fireworks 17. Drugs or Me 18. My Sundown 19. Anderson Mesa 20. Byebyelove 21. Mixtape 22. 23 (I like the number 22 and any playlist I make and save is that amount of songs.)
