However, I do love MBT's lyrics in the chorus ("I can feel the air rush out from the center, not like one side is any better"). It kind of centralized (heh) how the entire album handles perspectives of love and all the photographs that inspired the album.

 

I'm really not looking forward to the Damage bracket.

Damage bracket is going to be fun. First album in a bit that doesn't have a foregone conclusion victor.

Damage is such an underrated record, most likely because their discography is so stacked.

 

Damage has some of my favorite lyrics, but I find a lot of the music on it subpar (by JEW standards).

 

all of their albums are huge growers in so much as there's so many layers to unpack upon subsequent listens

that being said I think Damage and Chase This Light have grown the largest for me over time from my first listens of them

 

I feel like JEW as a band are growers. At least they are/were for me. When I was in high school they were a band I listened to but I wouldn't have put them in a top list of any sort. By college they were a top 25 band. A few years ago they became a top 10. Recently they've become a top 5 maybe top 3 band. On any given day I might say they're my favorite band.

 

I say it all the time, but I'm absolutely stunned how much I just cannot get into Damage. Considering JEW is probably a top 5 band for me, for them to release an album that I'm just completely disconnected to feels wrong.

 

I remember hating Futures when it first came out. Now it's one of my favorite albums of all-time. Most of their albums for me have clicked pretty quickly. I've tried to get into Damage so many different times and it just never clicked.

 

I like Damage a lot more than Invented. They used to be pretty even for me, but they aren't anymore.

 

I enjoy both Damage and Invented enough, but they're definitely my least favorites in the discography post-Static. I prefer Invented though.

 

Invented was my second favorite album of theirs after Clarity until Integrity Blues came out

I kinda wish they would have kept the female backing vocals heavily featured on Invented going forward

Courtney and Rachel's vocals provide such a great counterpoint to Jim's, and on this record particularly they let Jim write songs from various perspectives/gazes/voices

 

Book of Love is underrated

 

Invented is so woefully unengaging to me. Easily my least favorite of the legit discography of JEW (Clarity forward). Damage was such a relief to hear because I really enjoyed it. I needed that album after being so bored/uninterested with Invented.

Damage is my second fav after Clarity, personally. I’m excited for that round.

 

I guess I'm the complete opposite, haha. I really like Invented. Heart, MBT, Higher Devotion, Stop, Little Thing, cut, Action are songs I go back to a lot.

 

I like Damage but I like it a lot less than every other post-Static album. Love Invented save for a couple tracks.

 

What really hurts Invented for me is that it has both "Higher Devotion" and "Action Needs an Audience," which are both bottom five JEW songs for me, Clarity forward.
