do y'all associate the records to colors? Static is brown, Clarity is blue, Bleed American is dark red, Futures is navy blue, CTL is purple (actually rainbow-colored but that's cheating), Invented is light gold and Damage is light green. some are because of the cover or a music video, but some just -feel- like they're that color somehow.
It appears that Robbie Vinning will be involved in the album to some capacity. This, coupled with the hints of Tom Linton singing on the album, makes me happy. Having all members of a band involved in an album usually yields good results.
Not really excited about Tom singing again, just like Jim a lot more. But I'm sure I'll enjoy the album a lot anyway. Tom's song on Invented is my least favorite on that album and it's still pretty good.
My personal favorites from Invented and Damage (not in order): Invented: Heart Is Hard To Find, Evidence, Invented, Movielike, and Coffee and Cigarettes Damage: I Will Steal You Back, Appreciation, Please Say No, Damage, and Lean Not to say others are not good (bc Mix Tape is amazing), but those are my absolute favorites of the records. If I want to listen to a particular JEW record, most of the time it's because I'm in the mood to listen to one of those songs. Otherwise, I listen to a specific JEW record if it's been a while or if I've given the rest of their discography more attention lately.
Always down for more Tom. Hopefully he can land a little closer to Blister this time, but I still thought Action Needs An Audience was a cool song.
I've been listening to Invented recently, thanks to this thread. The highs on that record - "Heart is Hard to Find," "Littlething," the last one-two punch of "Invented" and "Mixtape" - are some of my very favorite JEW songs. I've always thought "My Best Theory," "Higher Devotion," and "Action Needs An Audience" as outliers to the overall sound of the album, as exemplified by the first songs I listed above, even though I actually really like all of them (well, "My Best Theory" a little less so). While I'm not the biggest fan of altering tracklists, there's a pretty killer, compact 9-track album if you take those out. It flows really, really well too. I kinda think if they had done that, this album would be considered on the same level as their very best.
I just wish Invented was 10 songs, like Damage. I actually like "Action" okay, but wish it was a b side.
I actually like how Invented is a little longer and has some songs that are outliers sonically. it's a record that kind of stretches a bit in a bunch of different directions and I think it works
Tom singing on Invented was not good - Action Needs An Audience felt hella forced. I don't really know what to expect from a new JEW album - parts of Damage really clicked with me, but it felt like a hollow effort compared to past albums.
23 is great but it doesn't hold a (Roman) candle to Fireworks. Dizzy would be my second pick for best Jimmy song.
