Does anyone know the history as to what led Jim to become the main vocalist over the years? It seems when they started (self-titled and SP) Tom seemed to be the lead vocalist with Jim chiming in here and there. I don't think I ever read any explanation as to how that happened. I don't care for Tom's vocals, but I do really like Blister and Action Needs an Audience.
I remember Alt Press bitching about that fact in their review for Chase This Light ("more like Jimmy Eat Tom") and voila, there he was doing lead vocals on Invented and it didn't sound very good to me. Maybe there's some nostalgic fans who want to hear his voice but he's just not a good vocalist to my ears.
I have read that basically whoever writes the song generally sings it. Jim is apparently just a songwriting machine. source: Why did Jim Adkins become the band's primary singer? • r/JimmyEatWorld
